Role Summary/Purpose

We have an opening for an Advanced Lead Engineer in our Engine Center of Excellence (COE) team in Bangalore. We are looking for highly skilled Mechanical Engineers who can contribute to the development and optimization of diesel engine parts and systems using their expertise in finite element analysis (FEA) and component design. As part of this role, you will be involved in various aspects, such as Engineering proposals, New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, as well as Productivity and Reliability improvement projects. You will collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to successfully execute the assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead large diesel engine component design & development for various engine programs to meet performance, reliability, cost & weight targets

Requirement analysis, develop technical specifications & evaluation criteria to meet the requirements, develop multiple concepts & select the optimum solution for detailed engineering

Detailed engineering design including DFMEA, engineering calculations, materials selection, verification & validation, manufacturability & serviceability study while meeting the project schedule & performance requirements

Responsible for writing component design specification, component purchase specification, design guides & templates

Conducting advanced FEA simulations to analyze the structural, thermal, and dynamic behavior of diesel engine components.

Develop and validate FEA models to accurately predict the performance and reliability of engine parts under various operating conditions.

Analyze simulation results to identify potential failure modes and recommend design improvements.

Stay up-to-date with the latest FEA software, hardware, and simulation methodologies.

Responsible for writing validation plans, Manufacturing/assembly/service instructions and do follow through

Responsible for technical review of product specification to ensure compliance to set requirements

Responsible for test data post processing and technical review of verification & validation to ensure robustness of design

Responsible for project metrics related to design reviews, design quality, schedule and cost

Communicate project status, schedules, upcoming deliverables, and technical solutions between various teams. Method of communications to include, but not limited to, design review process, reliability review meetings, team meetings, project dashboards, broadcasting…etc.

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other applicable Engineering discipline

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in an Engineering position

Demonstrated project experience working in mechanical design and analysis projects

Extensive experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools, preferably ANSYS.

Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) requirements.

Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including suppliers

Willing/able to support hands-on project needs including Component lab testing, Engine test cell testing and On-locomotive validation testing

Ability and willingness to travel as required

Desired Characteristics:

Advanced degree in mechanical engineering discipline with relevant engine experience is a plus

Experience with diesel engine design, development & testing

Experience with component and system level validation

Six sigma GB/BB certification or use of statistical methods in engineering design

Proven ability to drive/embrace change & drive innovation

Proven problem solving, analytical skills & new idea generation

Good understanding of mechanical interfaces of engine components

Good understanding of engine component physics & materials

Good interpersonal, communication and organizational integration skills
