Advanced Packaging Design Engineer for Secondary Packaging

The position

We are seeking a Packaging Design Engineer with expertise in secondary packaging materials, focusing on paperboard, label substrates, and corrugated fiberboard, along with their manufacturing and printing technologies.

You will develop and optimize secondary packaging solutions aligned with our manufacturing capabilities, supply chain, and sustainability goals. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external suppliers, you’ll evaluate material performance and optimize designs for manufacturability, sustainability, and cost-efficiency, while meeting technical and performance targets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Expertise in materials like SBS, FBB, corrugated fiberboard, and label substrates, ensuring protection, sustainability, and regulatory compliance, with a deep understanding of material properties such as GSM, caliper, fiber composition, coatings, and their interactions with adhesives, inks, and coatings. Optimization of designs for offset, flexographic, and digital printing, ensuring high print quality, color consistency, and compatibility with various substrates for efficient and precise printing results. Design for efficient manufacturing processes, including die-cutting, folding, gluing, and label application, ensuring production efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and seamless integration into high-speed packaging lines. Development of precise structural designs using CAD software, focusing on material efficiency, manufacturability, and structural integrity to enhance product protection and reduce material waste. Collaboration with suppliers to evaluate material performance, implement cost-effective, high-quality solutions, and drive continuous improvements in packaging sustainability, recyclability, and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

As a person, you are innovative, possess good interpersonal skills, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to impact the support of marketed products. You have a high degree of flexibility and enjoy when tasks are varied, and the priority of projects or tasks could change. You are good at keeping an overview of your tasks, are analytical and systematic, and possess excellent communication skills. 

To be considered for this position, we imagine you:

Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent within engineering or a relevant field Possess at least 5 years of experience working with secondary packaging in a highly regulated industry, such as medical devices, pharmaceutical, automotive, aerospace, or food industry Have a good knowledge and understanding of packaging materials and processes Have experience with technical drawing and construction as well as using computer-aided design software (CAD) Are fluent in English, both written and spoken

It would be considered as a plus if you are familiar with printing/converting of packaging materials.

 

About the department

You will be part of Sec Pack Product Maintenance, a team of dedicated and highly competent colleagues, and be working at the crossroads between Devices & Delivery Solutions (R&D), Quality, and Production.

The department is supporting the entire range of Novo Nordisk secondary packaging products, and the technical product knowledge is anchored here. The department is responsible for the secondary packaging of the marketed products. We own and maintain specifications and material requirements for Novo Nordisk secondary packaging.
