The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides health care to neonates, infants and children up to one year of age. The NNP provides care for critically ill premature and full-term infants with emphasis placed on family centered culturally diverse sensitive care. In collaboration with the neonatologist, the NNP has daily responsibility for the assessment and management of patients in high and low acuity.

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner practices in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide a continuum of primary, acute and or subspecialty healthcare to their patients. They enhance the quality of care through education and clinical practice utilizing advanced practice, knowledge and research.

This is a 12-hour shift weekdays and weekends with day and night coverage

Qualifications

Education and experience in accordance with local, state and federal requirements
Current licensure APRN, RN, CDS and DEACurrent specialty specific national certification through the National Certification Corporation NCCCurrent NRP and BLS certification as required by specialty practiceCurrent prescriptive authority per state regulationClinical privileges at healthcare facilities as applicable

Principal functions

Manages clinical care of patients in the neonatal specialty areaOrders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies and proceduresCollaborates with healthcare providers to plan and coordinate patient care while promoting diversity, equality and inclusionProvides counseling and education for families related to the specialty areaPromotes quality care through ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient care outcomesSupports quality improvement and dissemination of evidence-based practice in the specialty area to all health care providersResponsible for maintaining current clinical and procedural competenceMaintains compliance with all hospital medical staff, office rules and regulations
