Advanced Practice Provider - Medicine, Medical Oncology - CTU-Sylvester Hollywood-Full Time
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APP also examines and treats patients independently and collaborates with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury management, also disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. The APP will work within the oncology service line responsible to execute care in the acute and outpatient care settings.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
2. Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
3. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
4. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
5. Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
6. Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
7. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
8. Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
9. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
10. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
11. Serves as a role model and mentor for staff.
12. Ensures and coordinates standardization of advanced practice process between patient care services and collaborative teams.
13. Integrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in healthcare and technological advances into scope of practice.
14. Participates or leads a hospital committee.
15. Co-leads collaborative team in developing a new service or strategic performance improvement.
16. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
17. Participates in survivorship and long term care of patients following completion of treatment.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
CTU (Chemotherapy Treatment Unit)
1. Provide chemotherapy treatment unit (CTU) cross coverage to satellite. This includes on-call and cross coverage.
2. Provides new patient and ongoing teaching to oncology patients.
3. Able to collaborate with physicians and other providers regarding the care of a patient receiving treatment in the CTU and in all setting including Inpatient.
4. Assures appropriate medical documentation.
5. Respond to emergencies or rapid responses.
6. Assures patient is transferred to appropriate physician/specialty/hospital for continuation of care.
7. Collaborate with pharmacy and nursing staff to optimize quality of care and time of the patients treated at CTU.
8. Refer to support services when needed.
9. Precept or mentor nursing staff and nursing students.
10. Assists in the management of family dynamics, coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
11. Promotes evidence based nursing practice.
12. Participate in unit QI/Research projects.
13. Assist when needed optimizing infusion center workflow by providing clinical care to patients (i.e. injections, assuming charge role, etc.)
14. Monthly educational in-services to staff based on relevant infusion center topics.
Outpatient Oncology Clinics and/or Hospital-based Centers
1. May travel to main campus and satellites to provide care to patients that are new to the system and or require follow-up care. This includes but not limited to Same/Next Day appointments, Survivorship visits, and walk-in patients with medical issues.
2. Collaborate with physicians, staff, and leaders in the care of these outpatients. 3. Provides patient/family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, treatment outcomes, possible complications, medications, discharge planning and lifestyle modification.
4. Assure appropriate transfer of patient/communication/documentation regarding the patient’s physician and team.
5. Participate in weekly Survivorship Operational Committee Meetings and other pertinent meetings related.
6. Collects data for patient and program evaluation and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.
7. Provides coverage to areas of need within main campus and the satellites.
8. Promotes evidence based nursing practice.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
Masters Degree in relevant studies.
Current licensure to practice as a APP in the State of Florida.
Must be credentialed to practice by Hospital Medical Board.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
Minimum of two years experience working with radiation oncology patients preferred
