As a member of the Richmond Refinery Process Control Engineering team, the PCE is a specialist in designing, implementing, and maintaining multivariable control applications (DMC, PBM, GDOT) and the applications that support the multivariable control applications (inferred properties, Raman models, et al.). Additional responsibilities include tuning of control loops, support of Honeywell TDC-3000 distributed control systems (DCS) and/or Honeywell Experion DCS, and assistance in training console operators. Requires regular communication with many workgroups including Operations, Maintenance, Technical, and Planning. This individual reports to the Process Control Team Leader within the refinery. Adjacent to Silicon Valley; home of major technology companies, you would join a team in Richmond refinery that is dedicated to the advancement of technology in systems. From the historic cable cars to the world’s best wine in Napa Valley, the bay area is one of the most iconic locations in the world. Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: + Implements and maintains multivariable process control applications that are consistent with short-term and long-term operating plans + Implements and maintains inferential calculations to support advanced control and optimization applications + Implements and maintains Raman analyzer models as required + Implements and maintains basic and advanced regulatory process control strategies + Collaborate and support the Process Control Network (PCN) infrastructure, network security, and backup systems + Provides daily process control support for console operators + Monitors control application performance and utilization to ensure consistency with short-term and long-term operating plans + Identifies and resolves control performance issues by coordinating with colleagues in other areas of specialization (instrumentation, analyzers, process, mechanical equipment, etc.) + Identifies and captures opportunities for improving the safety, reliability, profitability, and operability of the operating area through process control improvements. + Trains refinery personnel on the effective use of process control applications and systems + Acts as a mentor/resource for refinery process and control engineers. Influences and improves work processes for a global refining technical system. + Demonstrates knowledge of operating area interactions with the rest of the refinery and helps troubleshoot process problems in the operating area and refinery + Maintains and grows process control skills by attending onsite and offsite training Required Qualifications: + B.S. Chemical, Electrical Engineering OR applicable work experience (minimum of 5 years) in refinery operations, refinery / petrochemical process control, and/or refinery or petrochemical process engineering. + Knowledge of process control fundamentals, including design, configuration, support, and programming of distributed control systems (DCS). + Strong technical/analytical skills, with a proven record of innovative problem solving and proactive system improvement. + Strong oral, written, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate at all levels. Preferred Qualifications: + Technical Skill - Possess a strong understanding of, and experience with, advanced process control techniques, tools, and methods + Experience with Honeywell DCS. + Experience with control loop tuning, DCS support, and training of operators. + Multivariable control applications (DMC3), supporting applications (inferentials, etc.), and knowledge of their impact on refinery operating plans. + Strong, fundamental understanding of refinery or hydrocarbon processing and equipment. + Familiarity with instruments, analyzers, etc, and their use in support of refinery processes. + Experience working with facility operations personnel, particularly console operators. + General awareness of common network architectures used in PCN environments, including the Purdue Model. + Ability to create and promote an environment of trust, teamwork, and inclusiveness through actions and behaviors. + Demonstrated ability to build team consensus and to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline, multi-function, and multi-cultural environment. + Demonstrate a strong understanding of, and focus on, personal and process safety.
