Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack And Burn)
**Job Title: Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn)** **Job Description** We are seeking an experienced Advanced Shipfitter with expertise in multi-pass tack and burn techniques. The ideal candidate will have four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter and possess strong skills in welding, blueprint comprehension, and working in physically demanding environments. **Responsibilities** + Perform Single Pass Tack Welding. + Operate Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch and Heating Torch. + Interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines. + Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler. + Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly. + Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications with high quality. + Work in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication. + Comply with OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry. + Utilize vibratory tools including grinders and needle guns. **Essential Skills** + Single Pass Tack Welding + Burning using Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch + Heating using Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch + Ability to read and understand complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches + Understanding of weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines + Ability to measure fractional dimensions with a ruler + Experience in laying off piece parts for fabrication and assembly + Ability to assemble structural parts as per specifications + Experience in physically demanding environments + Familiarity with OSHA regulations + Proficiency in using vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns) **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter + Must be able to work in the US + Ability to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test + Experience with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) + Proficiency with MIL--M (A-5A) Filler Metal of MIL-E-/1 + Ability to weld in both Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) positions **Why Work Here?** Join a leading shipbuilding company where you will have the opportunity to work on significant projects in a dynamic and challenging environment. The shipyard is located in Southeast Virginia and spans over five miles. Candidates should be prepared for hot and muggy conditions in the summer and cool conditions in the winter. Work shifts are available across 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am). **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
