**Job Title: Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn)** **Job Description** We are seeking an experienced Advanced Shipfitter with a minimum of four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter. The ideal candidate will have extensive skills in single pass tack welding, burning, heating, and the ability to read and comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches. **Responsibilities** + Perform single pass tack welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. + Use oxygen/propane burning and heating torches. + Read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines. + Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler. + Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly. + Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications ensuring quality. + Work effectively in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication. + Comply with OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry. + Use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns. **Essential Skills** + Single Pass Tack Welding + Burning using Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch + Heating using Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch + Ability to read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches + Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler + Ability to lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly + Experience assembling structural piece parts according to specifications + Experience working in physically demanding environments + Familiarity with OSHA regulations + Proficient use of vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns) **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Four years of commercial/naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter + Ability to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using SMAW process with MIL-M (A-5A) filler metal in vertical up (3F) and overhead (4F) positions + Ability to pass multiple pass tack weld tests, including practice and visual inspection **Why Work Here?** Join a leading shipbuilding company and be part of an innovative team that values quality, safety, and professional growth. The shipyard stretches over five miles long, and all work will be conducted on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30pm-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am). **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
