Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Shipfitter with a minimum of four years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class Shipfitter. The ideal candidate will have extensive skills in single pass tack welding, burning, heating, and the ability to read and comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches.
ResponsibilitiesPerform single pass tack welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process.Use oxygen/propane burning and heating torches.Read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions using a ruler.Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.Assemble structural piece parts according to specifications ensuring quality.Work effectively in physically demanding environments such as shipbuilding and steel fabrication.Comply with OSHA regulations relevant to the shipbuilding industry.Use vibratory tools such as grinders and needle guns.Essential SkillsSingle Pass Tack WeldingBurning using Oxygen/Propane Burning TorchHeating using Oxygen/Propane Heating TorchAbility to read and interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketchesAbility to comprehend fractional dimensions using a rulerAbility to lay off piece parts for fabrication and assemblyExperience assembling structural piece parts according to specificationsExperience working in physically demanding environmentsFamiliarity with OSHA regulationsProficient use of vibratory tools (grinders and needle guns)Additional Skills & QualificationsFour years of commercial/naval experience as a first-class ShipfitterAbility to pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using SMAW process with MIL-M (A-5A) filler metal in vertical up (3F) and overhead (4F) positionsAbility to pass multiple pass tack weld tests, including practice and visual inspectionWhy Work Here?

Work Environment
The work is performed in a shipyard located in Southeast Virginia, which experiences hot and muggy summers and cool winters. The shipyard stretches over five miles long, and all work will be conducted on a Navy vessel or in a shop environment. Candidates must be able to work any shift, including 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30pm-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
