The Role

We are seeking an Advisor, Emergency Operations for a term of twelve months to provide managerial, technical and operational leadership for the execution of the response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton in affected states. This includes supervising program staff, building and maintaining local relationships, overseeing data collection and quality, monitoring program implementation, and acting as an effective representative and storyteller for the impacted communities.

Location

Hybrid – Washington DC or Lexington, KY office locations

Remote – Florida or North Carolina locations

 

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

*not inclusive of all role responsibilities. May be subject to change

Lead the implementation plan of hurricane-impacted communities in Florida and North Carolina (70%)

Execute and deliver on program strategy and program implementation plans Lead the process of building and maintaining child focused relationships with local, stated, and regional based partners Complete and submit periodic program reporting Oversee logistics for program trainings, monitoring and evaluation data collection and reporting; and track and report on program expenses. Oversee Gift-in-Kind (GIK) operations and distributions, ensuring efficient tracking and reporting Conduct site visits and program fidelity checks to ensure that Save the Children's programs, whether implemented directly or through partners, adhere to the highest technical standards. Coordinate regular meetings with program technical teams to ensure program fidelity and quality Order, assemble, and distribute additional program materials to partners as needed. Manage partner communication, providing timely follow-up and collecting feedback. Work with program and finance stakeholders to oversee budget, monitor awardee grant implementation. Serve on external-hurricane related long term recovery coalition workgroups

Coordination, Representation, Development and Story Telling (20%)

Help establish, maintain, and improve active and regular working relationships with government agencies, partner agencies (including donors and sub-grantees), and federal relief agencies. Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of the state teams and other agencies, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed, and represent Save the Children in relevant coordination forums. Ensure community acceptance and maintain engagement with local partners. Liaise with the relevant external stakeholders and manage community engagement initiatives. Support fundraising, communications and reporting for recovery programs, including providing input into the development of high quality concept notes, proposals, reports and budgets; work with marketing and communications colleagues to effectively tell our story to different donor audiences

Support continuous improvement needs for domestic emergency responses (10%)

Inform U.S. response and recovery protocol and strategies based on partnerships and field learnings. Be an active participant in cross-functional US Programs teams and groups focused on improving our emergency program and operational capacities.

 

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience Strong project management skills Professional proficiency in MS Office suite Professional proficiency in spoken and written English Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 25% within response region.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Background in nonprofit or NGO operations Familiarity with federal and state emergency response systems

 

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
