ABOUT Hermosa

Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

As the Health Safety Security Advisor you will play a crucial role in ensuring everyone goes home safe and well everyday. This role ensures compliance with MSHA training requirements including Hazwoper, South32 emergency response governance, field coaching and risk management across Hermosa.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 
•    Assist with the implementation and ensure compliance of company health, safety and security programs at the project level, driving a safety oriented approach to work
•    Provide consultation and coaching to all employee groups with a purpose of instilling and maintaining a pro-active approach to safety in all areas
•    Provide facilitation and participation in project induction processes aligned with project training scheme
•    Develop, coordinate and conduct required Health, Safety and Security training that includes meeting regulatory compliance and project emergency response mitigations from field response to incident management

•    Provide Safety leadership by example with supporting project objectives in field and developing positive relationships

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 
•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preference in a health science discipline or related field;
•    Sound knowledge and understanding of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 required;
•    Seven (7) years’ experience in mine health and safety and five (5) years' experience in occupational health and safety; 
•    Completed MSHA certified trainer certificate to include Surface and Underground or experience to meet requirements to attend certified training and obtain certification;
•    Experience in application of modern safety practices in leadership and multi-layer risk management tools.

•    Ability to manage electronic management systems including report generation.

•    Track record in developing and applying contractor management systems including assurance tasks.
•    Ability to influence and gain trust of the Hermosa team and key stakeholders.

•    Experience in basic emergency management and incident investigations. (ICAM preferred but not essential)

•    Proven history in construction and mining (underground).

•    Experience in application of modern safety practices in leadership and multi-layer risk management tools.

•    Ability to management electronic system systems including report generation.

•    Track record in developing and applying contractor management systems including assurance tasks.
•    Ability to influence and gain trust of the Hermosa team and key stakeholders.
