Your impact

The Advisor, People Services - Leaves, North America will provide recommendations and proposals for leave administration program improvements or plan design changes that align with employee engagement, wellness, and retaining talent. Additionally, the Advisor, People Services - Leaves, North America closely collaborates with the North America Total Rewards team, Local People teams, Site People Leads and Directors, People Business Partners, Advisors, COEs (Talent Acquisition, Global Mobility, Inclusion and Diversity, Compensation, Talent Management, HR Technology), external vendors, Legal, IT and Payroll to assesses leaves needs, efficiencies and points of alignment across the North America footprint.

The Advisor, People Services - Leaves, North America will directly lead all aspects of administration of the following programs:
Newmont’s Family and Medical Leave Plan 
Leaves regulated by the Canadian Federal Labour Standards
Short-Term Disability
Long-Term Disability
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
Pregnancy Workers Fairness Act (PFWA)
U.S. Workers’ Compensation
U.S. Military Leave

Leaves of Absence Administration
Act as the Subject Matter Expert in all things related to Leaves of Absence administration in the U.S. and Canada. Includes review and processing of applications, return to work process, accommodations, time entry in local systems, etc., as needed.
Serve as the first point of contact for the Leaves team, providing guidance and addressing inquiries. Proactively escalate complex cases as needed to the appropriate stakeholders, including the Leaves COE.
Resolve employee and stakeholder enquiries and escalations in a timely manner and provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding Newmont’s Leave of absence programs, as well as U.S. and Canda federal, state and provincial regulations.
Coordinate with internal team members as well as external stakeholders in the US and Canada, such as Payroll, Legal, HRBPs, Benefits teams and vendors on all relevant items, to ensure proper application of leave programs, PTO, Disability, etc.
SME for all time and attendance activities associated with Leaves of Absence, including proper maintenance and testing of system codes as needed.
Serve as the primary Newmont point of contact for all individuals on Leave in the U.S., communicating with individuals from end-to-end on their RTW and application status.
Ensure all Leave materials (such as the New Hire Orientation Presentation, Recruiter Summaries, SOPs, templates, etc.) are accurate and updated.
Provide training to the North America People Services team members and other stakeholders (such as People BPs, employee managers, Payroll, etc.) on updated leaves laws and best practices.
Act with attention to detail, delivering accurate work within timeframes and Service Level Agreements.

Prerequisites for your success in this role

General knowledge about U.S. and/or Canada leaves of absences administration and legislation highly preferred
General knowledge about U.S. and Colorado Worker's Compensation administration and legislation highly preferred
Ability to speak French is preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
Enrollment in Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) would be considered an asset.
Knowledge and experience with SAP, UKG KRONOS, SuccessFactors, Employee Central, SunLife, and Benefit Focus preferred
General knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment laws preferred.
General knowledge of Canadian Federal Labour Standards preferred.
Minimum of four years of progressive experience within Human Resources, with emphasis on Benefit and/or Leaves of Absence Administration. Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
Knowledgeable and conversant with applicable legislation/policies and procedures governing leaves programs, including FMLA, ADA, Leaves AODA, Worker’s Compensation, Colorado FAMLI and disability. 
A high degree of ownership, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality and care are essential for this position.
Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and take initiative to implement solutions.
Lead and support projects, ensuring timely execution and successful outcomes.
Critical Thinking and high attention to detail.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and excellent customer service skills.
Must have ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
Strong PC skills using MS office software
Ability to manage work across all areas of the business and function successfully within a multi-national/cultural environment.
Ability to handle tight deadlines and multi-tasking is a must.
Ability to handle highly confidential material on a continuous basis in an extremely professional manner.
Must be detail oriented and quality driven.
Ability to support multiple time zones across North America locations.

Your work environment

The position is part of the Corporate team in Denver but candidates in other US states and Canada may be considered, as the role can be done remotely from the US and Canada. 
Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
