While there is a preference for candidates in Michigan who could work at least three days in our Grand Rapids or Southfield locations, we are also open to the possibility of remote work in Michigan or the Washington, DC metro area.

Job Summary

This individual will serve as a member of the Corewell Health government relations and public policy team under the direction of the Sr Director of Public Policy. The Public Policy Advisor will work with the Sr Director with a focus on areas of key policy and legislative importance at both the state and federal levels of government that impact health plans and assist in developing state and federal relations advocacy priorities and strategy with input from key internal and external stakeholders, when appropriate.

This individual will also be responsible for forecasting, identifying, and providing recommendations/solutions to the Sr Director for areas of key regulatory, policy and legislative importance at both the state and federal levels of government with a focus on payers; will assist in developing a public policy strategy to address vulnerabilities, opportunities, and innovative solutions with key internal and external stakeholders, when appropriate; for developing materials/white papers with the Sr Director that can be used by the government relations team so that they can effectively and successfully execute advocacy strategies to further Corewell Health’s mission, vision, and priorities; and will develop and maintain relationships with key state and national policy organizations to advance and elevate policy solutions in state and national policy debates. Previous experience in monitoring multiple states’ regulatory comment process is preferred.

The individual will also monitor the interests of the System—including but not limited to the impact of public policy on health plans in Medicare, Medicaid, and the commercial markets—at the state and federal level while also understanding the unique vulnerabilities and opportunities of the System’s regional assets. The individual also will assist the Sr Director in managing relationships with Corewell Health’s member associations and coalitions and attending workgroups as needed to ensure Corewell Health’s positions are included in coalition and association positions. This position will require close collaboration with internal teams, including Government Markets, Commercial Markets, Corporate Communication and Marketing, Legal, Compliance, Community Relations, Finance, Quality & Risk team members and others across the System to identify opportunities and vulnerabilities and to aid in the development of public policy strategies. The individual should be adept at working with colleagues remotely and in different states.

Essential FunctionsMonitor regulatory, policy, and legislative proposals and providing in depth policy analysis on these proposals to the Sr Director in support of the interests of the System and targeting policy analyses to the interests of elected and administration officials, as appropriate.Identify and provide recommendations/solutions for areas of key interest to the System to address vulnerabilities and/or opportunities facing the System, its health plan, and regional entities.Be engaged in Corewell Health’s strategic partnerships and trade associations, particularly with payer associations, to help shape their position on key issues facing Corewell Health and its assets, including its health plan, and monitor their activities.Help in the production of public policy white papers to be shared with influential and reputable organizations working on policy issues of relevance, and in support of Corewell Health advocacy efforts.Build and maintain relationships with key internal subject matter experts in collaboration with the public policy team and ensure internal voices are being heard in public policy materials such as comment letters, informational requests, and white papers.Be a part of creating and maintaining a positive team atmosphere with remote and local team members.Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree with a preferred concentration in health care, political science, legal studies, public policy, or businessAt least 7 years of current and relevant combined experience in a health care policy, government relations position, federal or state legislative office demonstrating progressively more responsibility and proficiency
