Welcome to the role of Aerial Construction Technician I – Fiber Optics. In this position, you will stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines. This individual will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead fiber lines.  This position requires proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting.  The work performed will be within communications and power spaces.

 

This individual understands each product and supports the improvement of operational efficiency. They must be comfortable working at heights and within confined spaces for this position.

What You'll Do Safely perform work in communication spacesQualify to work safely in energized spaces Participate in training for pole climbingOperate basic hand tools (Cordless Drill, Hammer, Wrench, Socket Set)Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cabRecord and report the sequential foot marks by the operator or groundmanResponsible for framing polesPull cable, strand, fiber, and lash, for extended periods of timeProvide framing and attachment hardware for operator, jack down guys, pull lasherAssist with worksite housekeeping duties and equipment inspectionsProvide roadway flagging support for the operation to include obtaining Flagger CertificationMonitor basic gauges to determine tension and pressure on the cable linesAttend the reel to ensure uniform deployment of strand and fiber optic cable Assist with performing minor field repairs on equipmentAssist in the completion of documentation to include record-keeping, billing, and inventory, etc.Learn to recognize general safety hazards and electrical-specific hazards such as missing and or degraded parts and hardware

Working Conditions

Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneelClimb poles; carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 65 pounds, as well as work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 60 feet in the air to perform tasks in communications spacesWork indoors, outdoors, and underground in various weather conditionsAble to walk long distancesAble to lift up to 65 pounds without assistance What You'll Bring No prior experience necessaryValid Driver’s License is required Experience using the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, cable puller, and reel stands preferredExperience operating small equipment preferred (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.) General construction and/or flagging experience preferredMust be comfortable working at elevated heights and in confined spacesAbility to work under minimal supervisionAbility to inspect, operate, and mobilize a bucket truckPossess verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism Compute basic math calculations and take measurementsFamiliar with Microsoft Software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel How We'll Support You
