Bowhead seeks an Aerospace Engineer to join our team at Dahlgren, VA to support the Navy’s Integrated Engagement Systems Department in the integration of munitions system guidance.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of engineers and researchers to improve the performance of developing weapon concepts, and apply innovative technologies to these concepts.
• Apply computational and analysis methods to developmental munitions concepts.
• Contribute to research study plans for new weapon system designs, testing new materials and prototypes for future production, and reviewing the results to develop new products.
• Apply computational fluid dynamics models and other analytic methods to analyze the weapon system aerodynamic and stability characteristics
• Study aerodynamic systems using empirical methods, including data from wind tunnel facilities.
• Research and analyze engineering data to iterate and develop precision weapons
• Test weapon systems aerodynamic response to verify function and performance
• Design and assemble control panels, propulsion systems, guiding systems, computer systems and other necessary parts and systems.
• Coordinate activities with production, research, testing and other departments to optimize safety and efficiency
• Write design proposals, reports, manuals and other technical documents

• Use mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles to design and improve the aerodynamic characteristics of weapon systems including gun-launched munitions and rocket propelled systems.
• Work with government and Bowhead project leadership in order to address technical issues associated with the assigned project, being responsive to their priorities.
• Guide and instruct government and Bowhead personnel on the alternative technical approaches, being used as a resource to the technical community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline

• Six (6) years professional technical experience which includes four (4) years specialized experience that includes performing mechanical and/or aerospace systems requirements management, mechanical systems engineering design and integration, mechanical systems engineering design software tools (such as MATLAB, SolidWorks or ProEngineer), and mechanical systems engineering processes

• Demonstrated understanding of state of the art materials, mathematics, science, thermodynamics, mechanics, aerodynamics, production methods.
• Excellent research, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Effective verbal and written communication, project management and planning expertise
• Proficiency with high performance computer systems and aerodynamic modeling techniques


SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

 

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
