AFM Analytical Scientist
AFM Analytical Scientist City Florence State/Province Kentucky Overview:

This hands-on AFM Analytical Scientist position will be responsible for developing and performing analytical testing to support Celanese divisions. A member of a strong, collaborative team of scientists, this individual should have comprehensive experience in microscopy, especially atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Responsibilities: Be responsible for characterizing formulated products using AFM, microscopy and spectroscopic techniques.Maintains a safe work environment and drives for continuous safety improvements.Develops and validates analytical methods for material characterization and innovation.  Ensures good communications and timely prioritization to deliver quality results and meet project timeline expectation.Collaborates with global laboratories and cross-functional team to support manufacturing, quality control, material qualification, new product development, global method alignment, etc.Troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.Provides mentorship and training to the chemist team in instrument operation, data analysis and interpretation. Ensures good documentation on procedures, methods, calibration, maintenance, and other activities in the quality system.Promotes company culture, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Core Value initiative. Qualifications: Master or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field  3+ years AFM and microscopy experience.Targeted experience in other analytical techniques such as NMR, FTIR, SEM/EDS, DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology, wet chemistry, GC, HPLC, is a plus.Experience with engineering polymers or plastics is a plus.Ability to pro-actively design methods to meet customer needs.Effective communication - both verbal and written.Strong understanding and commitment to safe lab practice and chemical handling.Ability to organize, keep detailed documentation/records, and achieve timely, accurate results.Ability to make minor repairs to lab equipment.Ability work independently with minimal supervision and be part of team.
