Overview AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. The AARP Puerto Rico Team is looking for you! Puerto Rico is aging rapidly, and at the municipal level, we need to create specific plans and actions to align our resources and services to improve people's lives as they age and help build a better tomorrow for future generations. This paid internship is anticipated to start in July 2024 and end in December 2024. Responsibilities Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote livable communities’ policy issues on the eight (8) domains of Age-Friendly Cities: housing, transportation, access to health services, civic participation, communications, outdoor spaces, and social inclusion and participation Develop an integrated and comprehensive plan to lead the execution of Age-Friendly Cities Planning for municipal governments and community groups Research livable community policy issues and best practices to draft documents to support our advocacy and implementation efforts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, and collaborate in communications tactics Qualifications The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university school of planning, graduate student or postdoctoral student, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship Interest in community development, transportation, and housing planning, social participation, or urban design Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills Must be a self-starter and adaptable to work under tight deadlines Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities Ability to work well with diverse populations, including age, gender, race, and sexual orientation Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs Strong research and analytical skills with project management knowledge AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time. Additional Requirements Regular and reliable job attendance Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories. Compensation and Benefits The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
