Job Title: Agronomist
Job Description

Our organization is seeking a specialty-crops/permanent crops Research Agronomist to join our Crop Protection Discovery and Development Field Science team in Woodland, California. In this role, you will use your agronomy experience to act as an integral member of our field execution team with responsibilities for field planning, soil preparation, planting, growing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and equipment maintenance. The Research Agronomist will have specific accountabilities for specialty and permanent crops at the Woodland Research Center.

ResponsibilitiesMeet and work with Field Scientists to ensure the proper utilization of all agronomic practices in experimentsAct as the Responsible Agronomist for all specialty and permanent crops that are part of the Field Science workplanConstantly observe crews and have knowledge of crop dynamicsEffectively interact between various plant pathology, weed science, entomology, and biological research programs at the station to keep all areas of responsibility organized and supportedWork directly with other functions at the research center aiding in all field or warehouse leadership activitiesDistribute workload aligned to the seasonal cycles of the crops and work within the digital planning system for the research centerLead large groups of contract labor in conjunction with other teams at the stationBe primarily responsible for the health and wellbeing of all field trial sites with an emphasis on plot qualitySupport the Field Scientist in data collection, inoculant preparation, and other trial support activitiesCollect agronomic/trial data including samples of soil/leaves/water, insect counts, GPS points, and other similar dataChampion a world-class safety culture by actively learning, applying, and promoting best-in-class safety processes and proceduresEssential SkillsBachelor's degree in Agronomy or Ag-related field of study or 10 years of direct experience in a similar roleAbility to work with and knowledgeable of farming equipment such as tractors, sprayers, and implementsUnderstand equipment maintenance and upkeepExperience with pesticide applications/valid applicator licenseFamiliarity with Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to adapt to new computer programsValid driver's license and the ability to driveAbility to manage large crewsAbility to work outside during high summer temperaturesInitiative, fast learner, and people-logistics orientedMust be authorized to work in the United States without work authorization sponsorshipAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in vegetable managementExperience in tree/vine managementExperience in corn managementExperience in field agronomics and plot qualityGIS knowledge/experience preferredWork Environment

This role involves both field and lab work. You will be working outside during high summer temperatures and be responsible for managing large crews. The position requires familiarity with farming equipment and a valid driver's license. Emphasis is placed on safety culture and best-in-class safety processes and procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $36.00/hr.
