Summary
SUMMARY: The AHD Phlebotomist, under direction, follows written and verbal instructions. Draws blood from patients in hospital, or obtains other required samples, for analysis or other medical purposes. Interacts with departments throughout hospital, as well as patients and physicians. Must be able to perform routine duties without immediate supervision. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Perform a low to medium complexity testing (if trained); perform phlebotomy, ABG (for CPT II phlebotomist) & EKG; order tests for outpatients and follow front office duties.
2. Responsible for drawing inpatients and outpatients in a timely manner as requested.
3. Process specimens according to the established test requirements; process pathology & cytology specimens; inoculate cultures as needed; review pending list and keep it current.
4. Responsible for cleaning, maintenance, and correct operation of equipment; check, maintain, and request supplies needed for operation of department; keeps blood drawing area are clean, orderly, and stocked.
5. Responsible for prompt resolution of any problems related to phlebotomy; maintain phlebotomy logs according to designated procedure; tracking the send out reports and monitoring the send out pending.
6. Processing and coordinating the send out specimens.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum Experience: Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Certification/Licenses: Valid California Phlebotomy Certificate.
