Job Summary
The Fire Chief is responsible for overseeing all fire protection and emergency response activities within a fire department, ensuring operational efficiency and the safety of personnel and the community. This leadership role involves managing day-to-day operations, strategic planning, resource allocation, and overseeing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services. The Fire Chief ensures compliance with fire safety standards, investigates fire incidents, and works to prevent the loss of life and property. With a focus on risk management and training, the Fire Chief also coordinates with other emergency service agencies and supports professional development. This role typically requires extensive experience and certifications in fire service operations, leadership, and hazardous materials handling.

Roles and Responsibilities
Direct, supervise, and coordinate all fire department operations, including fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, and emergency medical services.
Ensure fire protection activities are in line with national standards, regulations, and safety procedures, including the preservation of evidence and fire scene investigations.
Develop and implement long-term strategies for fire department growth, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
Oversee the training and professional development of fire personnel, including certifications in Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter.
Plan, schedule, and manage fire department activities, ensuring appropriate staffing, equipment, and resources are available for emergencies.
Supervise the maintenance of firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities, ensuring all resources are operational and compliant with safety regulations.
Lead fire investigations to determine cause and prevent future incidents, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
Foster effective working relationships with local government officials, emergency agencies, and community stakeholders.
Manage the budgeting process, procurement of fire department equipment, and maintain cost-effective operations.
Provide leadership during large-scale incidents, directing response efforts and ensuring coordinated operations.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of overall fire department experience, with a significant portion in leadership and supervisory roles.
Certifications in Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter.
Proven experience in managing and directing fire operations, including fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical response.
Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations, emergency response protocols, and fire prevention methods.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a diverse team of fire personnel, fostering teamwork and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field.
Experience in developing and managing fire prevention programs and community outreach initiatives.
Expertise in managing large-scale emergency response incidents and interagency coordination.
