Job Summary
The Lead Firefighter (Crew Chief) is responsible for leading a team of firefighters in responding to emergencies, extinguishing fires, and ensuring the safety of personnel and the public. This position requires expertise in operating firefighting equipment, driving vehicles to fire scenes, and managing hazardous situations involving dangerous materials. The Crew Chief oversees the daily preventive maintenance of firefighting equipment and ensures all tools and vehicles are operational and ready for use. Additionally, the Lead Firefighter provides guidance and training to team members and supports fire operations during emergencies, maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency. The Crew Chief plays a critical role in coordinating resources and ensuring the effectiveness of fire suppression efforts.

Roles and Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of firefighters during emergency responses, ensuring effective coordination and safety.
Operate and manage firefighting equipment such as pumps, foam generators, and nozzles.
Drive firefighting vehicles to the scene, selecting the most efficient route and ensuring safe and timely arrival.
Use special protective gear when handling hazardous materials, including poisonous gases, radioactive substances, and hazardous biological agents.
Perform preventive maintenance on firefighting tools and vehicles, including oil changes, pump servicing, and equipment inspections.
Coordinate and execute fire suppression tactics to control and extinguish fires effectively.
Provide on-the-job training and guidance to firefighters, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and operational standards.
Develop and implement fire safety drills and emergency response strategies for team readiness.
Monitor and manage resources during emergencies, ensuring proper equipment allocation and personnel safety.
Complete accurate reports on fire incidents, equipment maintenance, and team activities.
Basic Qualifications
Fire Officer I certification.
Fire Instructor I certification.
Fire Inspector I certification.
Airport Firefighter training course completion.
Extensive experience in firefighting and emergency response, including leadership experience in fire operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced certifications in hazardous materials management or specialized firefighting techniques.
Experience with large-scale or complex fire incidents and multi-agency coordination.
