We want talented analysts, researchers, and engineers who can work as part of a team to design and implement state of the art data analytics, and acquire meaningful, actionable intelligence for our sponsors. You will combine your expertise with the latest technology, including generative AI, in order to rapidly prototype and build applications leveraging text, imagery, and other data modalities. As an AI Systems Engineer you will... Apply technical, leadership, and relational skills to execute projects in highly collaborative environments Lead software teams through the full system development lifecycle, including requirements, development, continuous integration and deployment, testing, and transition to target environment Demonstrate proactive project management practices for managing cost, schedule, performance, and quality Employ strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Stay current with the latest advancements in technology, industry trends, and emerging platforms to inform design decisions, improve system performance, and drive innovation Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have... B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or other relevant field. At least 5 years of systems engineering experience and at least 3 years of project management experience Previous experience with project planning, risk management, schedule estimation, cost estimation, and task tracking Previous experience leading teams through the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, continuous integration and deployment, and testing Previous experience creating systems engineering artifacts including requirements matrices, architecture and design documentation, test documentation, and security documentation Previous experience with agile software development and AI/ML/LLM technologies Strong problem-solving and analytical skills The ability to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Working experience in the areas of Defense, Homeland Security with DoD, health and human services and/or the Intelligence Community. Experience with AI assurance and human-AI teaming Experience with Git, Gitlab Continuous Integration and Deployment, or equivalent experience Experience with automation tools and/or scripting languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.) Experience working with enterprise cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) 10+ years of experience in systems engineering and project management Why work at APL? The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
