Do you want to make Siri and Apple products smarter for our users? The AIML Search Infra team is looking for an experienced backend engineer to join our team working on search infrastructure. You will lead the development of innovative, scalable backend systems that power AI driven applications and services across Apple's ecosystem. You will collaborate with other machine learning and backend engineers to implement scalable solutions to solve sophisticated challenges in a constantly evolving space.
**Description**
Our team designs and builds the infrastructures that power Siri and other Apple products, enabling intelligent search experiences for billions of users. We process vast amounts of data, including trillions of links, to surface the most relevant content. Our systems extract features for indexing, ranking, and retrieval, applying statistical analysis to improve link selection, freshness, and quality of results. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to help evolve the backend systems that make Siri smarter, improving search accuracy and user experience across a range of Apple services. The work is fast-paced, challenging, and directly impacts the way users interact with Apple devices on a global scale. Your work will directly impact the performance and capabilities of Apple's AI products, from Siri to Search and beyond.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
+ Strong coding skills in C++ or Swift with experience in backend development and performance optimization.
+ Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
+ Proven experience in backend development, code performance tuning, and testing.
+ Solid understanding of cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP, Apple Clouds) and containerization with Kubernetes.

+ Experience with cluster setup/management, monitoring, and logging is a plus.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
+ Experience with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems or similar AI-powered backend technologies is highly desirable.

+ At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
