Summary This position is located at US Mint,Manufacturing Directorate - Denver - Plant Engineering Division. The position involves the installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting of a variety of complex integrated heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, i.e., water coolers, cooling towers, refrigerators, steam systems and ventilating equipment, all critical to the continued operation of production and administrative functions. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, you will: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot malfunctions on a variety of complex integrated heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Balance and make adjustments to complex, integrated HVAC systems to meet climate-controlled conditions in production, administrative offices, laboratory, and maintenance areas by changing and monitoring settings - using the Building Automation Systems (BAS), computers, valves, heating and cooling dampers and motors. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot water coolers, refrigerators, ventilation equipment, and air conditioners, and repairs, overhauls, and replaces parts, components, and controls for same. Test for refrigerant and coolant leaks, evacuate, and clean systems, and recharge refrigerant systems using chemical dryers, evacuation and vacuum pumps, and other equipment as required. Perform preventive maintenance on alt HVAC systems, water coolers, refrigerators, unit heaters, etc., including adjustment and replacement of belts, cleaning, and lubricating equipment, performance testing of equipment, cleaning and replacing filters, and checking parts and components for wear. Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc. Pass a pre-employment physical examination. Pass a color-vision test. Pass a visual acuity test. In order to handle refrigerants, maintain, and/or repair AC systems, employee must be certified under an EPA 608 Universal Certification. Applicants who do not currently possess the certification will be required to obtain it within one year of appointment to the position. Physical Requirement: Work is performed on ladders, platforms, and hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, reaches, kneels, climbs, and works in awkward and uncomfortable positions when performing the work. Lifts tools and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and frequently lifts in excess of 40 pounds.
