As an Air Traffic Control Specialist, you will control air traffic according to established procedures and policies to prevent collisions and minimize delays arising from traffic congestion. You will be responsible for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic through U.S. Naval airspace reservation.

 

A successful candidate will demonstrate professional knowledge of air traffic control rules, regulations and techniques and the ability to apply this knowledge in a control tower.

 

Essential Job Functions:  

Performing all duties incidental to the safe and efficient operation of a Navy Contract Visual Flight Rules (NCTVFR) tower including: 

Issue clearance to aircraft and vehicular traffic operating on movement areas.  Provide air traffic services for aircraft operating in U.S. Naval airspace Reservation.  Maintain tower equipment and record outages and corrective actions.  Activate and test crash phone.  Operate airport lighting systems and visual aids.  Coordinate with adjacent Air Traffic Control facilities on aircraft movement.  Relay information from aircraft to applicable base personnel for items such as DV, fueling or T-line items.  Initiate procedures in the event of an unauthorized landing.  Advise arriving aircraft of current Bird and Animal Strike Hazard condition if moderate or severe.  Advise arriving aircraft of weather, airfield conditions, potential hazards, etc. Issue Prior Permission Required (PPR) notices for inbound aircraft as required.  Monitor range status for special use airspaces (MU) P-1002, (MU) R-1002, (MU) W-1001.  Provide ATC Liaison with NRSE, NAVREPs, FAA representatives, local base officials, and representatives of other agencies as required.  Initiate current pre-mishap plan in the event of an emergency aircraft. 

 Perform all duties normally expected of a Base Operations or Flight Planning Branch including:  

Provide for planning, receiving and processing of flight plans. Assist aircrews in filing of flight plans. Receive and process information for inbound aircraft.  Make available required publications, directives, charts and supplies for pilots. Ensure transient aircrews are briefed as necessary to avoid Cuban airspace violations. Coordinate with adjacent FAA facilities and CNRSE ATC Subject Matter Expert (SME).  Monitor range status for special use airspaces (MU) P-1002, (MU) R-1002, (MU) W-1001.  Notify cognizant search and rescue (SAR) agencies of aircraft in distress and provide emergency assistance. P Performs other related duties needed/required to support the mission.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

Provide a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of aircraft at the airport and in the air. Knowledge of air traffic control rules, regulations and techniques. Effectively utilize two-way radio communications, radar systems with associated computer equipment, landline communications systems and visual light-gun signals. Formulate limited weather observations and provide weather conditions and assist aircraft during periods of inclement weather with the use of radar, instrument landing systems and various types of airfield lighting. Offer emergency assistance to aircraft and be responsible for notifying and coordinating with emergency personnel and other agencies. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Proficient with Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

 

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

Physically able and willing to work long hours to meet mission and contract requirements. Ability to pass employment and pre-deployment qualification requirements that include medical, drug testing and background checks, etc.

 

Education & Experience:

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an ACA1 or equivalent DoD /DOT air traffic controller course in accordance with NAVAIR 00-80T-114. Minimum three (3) years of civilian and/or military experience in air traffic services.

 

License & Certifications:

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. Passport. ATC personnel shall have previously held a Control Tower Certificate (CTO) from a level 1 of higher facility issued under Title 14 CFR part 65 with no more than 3 years elapsing since most recent certification. Required to maintain a current FAA Class II Medical clearance (FAA Form 8500-9 or equivalent). Valid U.S. Driver’s License Ability to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission. May be required to obtain a military flight line driver’s license.

 

Travel: 100% Overseas Assignment
