The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. Description of Job
This position is part of our Air National Guard division and is located on Buckley Air Force Base. This position will start at the mid level due to obtaining military air base certifications and progressed to the fully operational level. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
+ ensuring standards and procedures are adhered to in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard directives, and local directives and regulations;
+ assuming responsibility for air traffic control services during scheduled shift;
+ performing separation, control, and sequencing of aircraft within the Class DELTA and ECHO airspace;
+ continuously assessing the operating condition and status of tower equipment, logging and tracking all maintenance, utilizing back-up and alternate equipment during primary equipment outages, and approve equipment operability prior to bringing equipment back in service;
+ utilizing the tower radar display to aid in visually locating aircraft or determining their special relationship to known geographical points, providing traffic advisories, assisting with landing sequence, and providing surveillance of Class DELTA airspace;
+ planning and directing tasks performed by subordinates during shift;
+ providing emergency assistance to aircraft in distress;
+ activating the primary crash phone for local emergencies and relaying aircraft emergency information to emergency response teams; and
+ monitoring, relaying, and recording on Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) weather observations, forecasts, and advisories in accordance with the National Weather Service and facility directives.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Qualifications:
+ Must be a current Classified employee of the State of Colorado, Department of MIlitary and Veterans Affairs.
+ Must possess acurrentAir Traffic Control Specialist Certification from an air traffic control facility where previous or current rating was/is held (please attach a copy of certificate to your on-line application to be considered).
+ Must possess or be able to obtain a FAA Form 8500-9, Class II Medical Certificate and drug test, or military equivalent, conducted at pre-employment and on a continuous basis thereafter.
+ Must be able to gain a certification for air-traffic-controller on a military base within six months of employment.
+ Must have controlled “air traffic” within the past three years. (Make certain this is clearly notated on your application)
+ Must have two years Controller-in-Charge experience. (Make certain this is clearly notated on your application)
+ May be required to obtain a secret security clearance.
+ Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
+ Employment is conditional upon passing a military background check and obtaining a national security clearance within six months of employment.
+ Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Previous experience controlling military aircraft and fighter aircraft to include high performance jet traffic.
+ Working knowledge of the Airfield Automation System (AFAS) up to and including Administrator training, etc.
