Job Summary

This position is responsible for repairing and testing air brake valves for railroad applications and installing and repairing air brake systems on locomotives.

Essential Functions:

Follow all safety rules and procedures

Perform air brake valve repair and testing as required by company specifications.

 Perform air brake system installation and maintenance on locomotives.

Able to read schematics and perform shop math.

Correctly prepare and maintain records/reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Experience using hand tools and pneumatic hand tools, cutting torch, welders and pipe threader.

Understand air brake schematics and brake valve diagrams and part lists for valve repair and system installation on locomotives. 

Must be able to perform physical requirements of a shop repair environment and working on locomotives.

Be a team player, with a positive, can-do attitude.

Must be able to follow orders and communicate well with fellow workers and management.

Must have the ability to work well with others, and have the desire to work as a team and be willing to learn all aspects of air brake repair and locomotive air brake system installation.

Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, governmental regulations and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to communicate with fellow workers and management verbally, non-verbally and written

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and Experience:

 High School diploma (or equivalent). Experience in a manufacturing environment in a job related field.
