Aircraft Configuration-Assistant Staff

 

 

Position Description

 

The Rapid Prototyping Group partners with mission areas across the Laboratory to develop and field new technology and hardware demonstrations.  The group’s portfolio of programs is diverse with execution timelines typically under a year. These small, rapidly executed programs need curious individuals with diverse skillsets who thrive in dynamic environments. 

 

The group is seeking Assistant Staff candidates to support the aircraft integration portfolio.  Tasking may include any of the following:

 

Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop prototype designs Use SolidWorks to generate design for fabrication Identify and/or conducting structural/optical/thermal analysis Participate in system integration and test Travel to participate in field demonstrations

 

Realizing cutting-edge technology into fieldable prototypes depends on teamwork.  The ideal candidate will be a strong team member with excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess a creative problem-solving mindset.  As a strong team member, such a candidate will be both a good listener and willing to speak up when required.

 

Requirements

 

BS in Engineering (mechanical, aerospace, opto-mechanical, or similar) with 0-3 years of relevant work experience SolidWorks proficiency Demonstrated hands-on experience with design, fabrication, system integration, testing and troubleshooting Excellent written and verbal communications Ability to articulate requirements or needs as a prototype design evolves. Requirements may cover physical designs, documentation, analysis, and/or basic electrical interfaces Willingness to be onsite at least 80% time

 

Additional Desired Qualifications

 

Final SECRET clearance ARAS Innovator experience Familiarity with analysis tools: NASTRAN/PATRAN, Zemax, or CODEV   Specialized skills: motors & bearings, environmental ruggedization, actuation, optical alignment, etc.
