Summary This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN, Position Description Number D285000 and is part of AASF 2 Nebraska Army National Guard. INDEFINITE EMPLOYMENT IS TEMPORARY IN NATURE AND WILL LAST MORE THAN ONE YEAR BUT NO MORE THAN SIX YEARS. BENEFITS ARE THE SAME AS A PERMANENT APPOINTMENT. MAY CONVERT TO PERMANENT WITHOUT FURTHER COMPETITION. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN, WG-2892-5/8/10, duties include: 1. Functionally tests, troubleshoots, inspects, adjust, aligns, calibrates, repairs and overhauls the entire range of aircraft electrical systems to insure maximum operating efficiency. This includes general, major, and limited depot maintenance on Army fixed and/or rotor wing aircraft, and unmanned aircraft systems. These duties include repair and overhaul of complex power, control, and warning systems such as: master control panels and analyzing units which monitor and regulate engine operations; master caution panels; voltage regulators and supervisory panels; AC and DC generators for regulations and load capacity plus voltage checks; starters for slippage and breakaway torque; inverters for input and outputs for proper voltage, amperage, and frequency; service both lead- acid and nickel-cadmium type batteries; indicating instruments and fuel quantity indicating systems; linear actuators; electronic and electrical control units governing air conditioning and other utility systems. Fabricates and repairs wiring harness; and test equipment requisitions, and maintains records of bench stock, material, parts, and equipment. 2. Selects, operates, maintains, and repairs specialized electrical measuring and shop equipment such as: multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, magneto test stands, and electrical equipment test stands. Calibrates and adjusts amplifiers, control boxes, and other equipment to vary voltage, resistance, frequency, load and other variables to analyze constructional and operating characteristics of electrical shop equipment and testers. 3. Solves unusual maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. Utilizes all applicable technical references, guides, work instructions, and publications regarding aircraft electrical systems and shop equipment. Maintains a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles as applies to avionics instruments systems to include use and interpretation of wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical publications. May participate in aerial flights, which are defined by applicable Army publications for Maintenance Test Flights, for the purpose of observing, recording, and diagnosing malfunctions with digital test equipment, or otherwise assisting in determining the performance of aircraft electrical components. 4. Guides lower-level mechanics in performance of tasks. Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Required to serve as requested on contact teams throughout the support area. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained and that funds are not obligated for material or parts without proper justification. Performs authorized major modifications within assigned functional area as directed by higher technician authority. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Military Grades: Maximum: E7; Minimum: E1; Military Grade inversion within the full time work forces is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of the personnel supervised. Security Clearance/Background Check requirements: In order to comply with US DOD requirements and ensure the safety and security of the missions, programs, property and personnel of the Nebraska Military Department, employees must obtain the appropriate background investigation and maintain the level of security clearance assigned to their respective work. Failure to obtain, within one year of appointment, and maintain the designated type of security clearance/background check required for the respective work may result in a job offer being rescinded, separations of employment, or other actions as may be deemed in the best interest of the agency. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which has provided a knowledge and skill in locating and tying in the electrical systems with the aircraft armament, electronics, and instrument systems; adjusting and calibrating the components of the various electrical systems; reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-05 - Must posses 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to learn procedures used in repairing aircraft electrical systems. Experience which demonstrates the ability to recognize simple malfunctions. Experience in the use of common hand tools to perform simple tasks. WG-08 - Must posses 12 months experience or training in installing, maintaining and repairing aircraft electrical systems. Experience which demonstrates the ability to diagnose and determine repairs. Experience in the use of common hand tools and measuring equipment. Experience which provided ability to lay out, set up and perform operations dependent on electrical and electronic theory and instruments. WG-10 - Must posses 18 months experience or training installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying electrical systems and major substation components of electrical system. Experience diagnosing malfunctions and determining remedy when complex relationships exists among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems. Experience making electrical repairs that require the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools. Experience in the setup and operation of computerized multiple circuit analyzing equipment in manual, semiautomatic, or automatic mode to run existing and new (not fully debugged) diagnostic programs to test and analyze aircraft electrical circuitry and interconnecting cabling of systems such as navigational computers, radar, and related equipment and to repair discrepancies.
