Aircraft Mechanic I
The **Mechanic I** is responsible for providing repair services on assigned airframe/aeronautical components and performing approved repairs. The ability to produce quality work in non-negotiable deadlines is part of this position. **Essential Responsibilities:** + Uses schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publication in operating, testing, removing, troubleshooting, and replacing aircraft system components. + Complies with the requirements of the FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and safety programs. + Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. + Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. + Performs the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, may service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, may specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair. + Performs aircraft conditional inspections including, but not limited to, 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves. + Performs all required aircraft servicing tasks. + Operates and inspects ground support equipment and documents/reports discrepancies prior to use. + Performs all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft. + Orders parts and supplies as needed. + Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, company policy, and other maintenance directives as required. + Identifies and documents aircraft discrepancies on appropriate forms. + Performs other related duties as assigned. + Participates in towing and movement of aircraft in performing maintenance activities. + Removes, installs, opens, closes, aircraft equipment and panels as required. + All other duties as assigned within classification. + Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. **Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:** High school diploma or equivalent is required. + Minimum two years of Aircraft Mechanic experience. + A working knowledge of aircraft systems and of the use of common aircraft hand tools and special tools is required. + Thorough understanding of Company processes and operations. + Basic computer skills. Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate communication and behavior. + Organizational and time management skills. + Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a high-paced and rapidly changing environment + Ability to judge and make decisions quickly & accurately. + Flexibility, ability to learn new concepts quickly. + Knowledge of technical documents such as technical bulletins, alert service bulletins, etc Education – Completion of high school or the equivalent is required. + Completion of specialized courses is desired. + The ability to read and write and to comprehend technical data is required. + Ability to use hand tools and equipment/machinery. + Ability to read, write, and understand English + Valid Driver’s License. + A&P Preferred **Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:** Capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods of time. Must be capable of performing tasks in cramped, awkward, and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures. Must be capable of carrying items up to 50 pounds or, for heavier objects, must seek assistance of other workers or weightlifting devices. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment for HAZMAT operations. May be required to work night shifts. May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside. May be exposed to extreme noise, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, or work near moving parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
