The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC WORKER, WG-8852-08 potential WG-8852-12, is to provide on-equipment maintenance for General Test & Support Aircraft. Duty Title: Aircraft/Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic Responsibilities Responsible for the airworthiness of one or several assigned aircraft and works independently applying broad trade knowledge. Inspect and troubleshoot aircraft that are non-fielded, prototype or pre-production, and/or extensively modified production aircraft that are dedicated to support research, development, test and evaluation, in-service testing of potential replacement items (form, fit, function), and for aircraft/stores compatibility testing. Serve as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs to aircraft. Responsible for the operational checks/examination and approval of work performed on assigned aircraft, the interpretation of technical data and guidelines, the recommendation of changes or additions to guidelines and the safety and housekeeping of the aircraft and work area. Responsible for performing, coordinating and/or overseeing the work and any inspections to be done on test and test support aircraft. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. TARGETED POSITION: This position is a developmental WG-08 Target WG-12 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-08). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to lift, hold, and position heavy pans (20-50 pounds), and work in strained and cramped positions. Requires normal color perception, good eye-hand coordination, and finger dexterity. May be required to arm/de-arm external fuel tanks and pylons. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Required to perform work both inside and on the flight line in all weather conditions. Required to work around toxic chemicals; subject to possible injury from noise, toxic and corrosive chemicals, falls, jet engines, operational aircraft, moving vehicles and machinery. Possibility of cuts, burns, shocks, and strains. May involve some risk of exposure to radiation from ignition systems.
