About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. Responsibilities Disassemble, clean, rework, and assemble aircraft mechanical components. Using prescribed technical reference material and procedures, disassemble, clean, and examine items for corrosion, wear, scratches, or other damage which exceeds allowable tolerances. Replace unserviceable parts or rework by hand lapping, honing, and shimming, touching up plating and or painting, or bead blasting, or routes to other shop for rework. Assemble item, checking condition of parts to be used and following specified sequence and alignment procedures. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanical Parts Repairer without more than normal supervision. Perform common Aircraft Mechanical Parts Repairer tasks. Disassemble some components, assemblies, and/or accessories when guidance is provided. Skill in following guidance to examine parts for damage and/or wear patterns to determine if they are reusable or need reworking. Skill in using some common hand tools, shop equipment and machinery (buffer, grinder, bead blasting machine, press), fixtures special tools, and test equipment. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Requires long periods of standing, and/or sitting and reaching. Frequently handles items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Working Conditions: Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated shop area. Exposed to moving machinery, solvents, oil,and grease. Subject to noise from test stand operation. Required wearing safety glasses and shoes;also, gloves, respirators, and ear protection when appropriate. Working conditions considered in theevaluation of the work.
