ALPHA Education Coordinator (Managerial Tier B) (SY24-25)
Boston Latin School (BLS) is one of three exam schools in the district, serving more than 2,450 scholars in grades 7-12. Position Summary and General Responsibilities: Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional ALPHA (A Learning Place for Healing Adolescents) EDUCATION COORDINATOR who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to support students with reentry and reintegration into the school community after an extended absence because of illness or hospitalization. The Coordinator will be responsible for organizing, designing, and executing reentry plans for returning students and assessing the effectiveness of the plans. They will work closely with the Student Support Team and teachers to ensure that reentry plans align with the school’s student learning goals. Because the majority of the Coordinator’s time will be spent supporting students returning after an extended absence, candidates must exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and enjoy engaging with diverse stakeholders. Reports To: Head of School Responsibilites: Work with students, families, and the school-based team to develop a clear transition plan for students returning from medium- to long-term absences to support their academic progress and behavioral health. Collaborate with student support staff, including nurses, guidance counselors, special education teachers, English learner teachers, and clinicians to ensure holistic support for students Oversee the development of transition plans, including timelines, goals, action steps, and outcomes. Oversee the case management for individual students in partnership with families, external service providers, and school personnel, including teachers, guidance counselors, nurses, department heads, after-school program tutors, and administrators. Collaborate with teachers and department heads in creating academically rigorous but realistic makeup plans (given students’ need to balance make-up work with current instruction). Provide individual and small-group instructional support to students returning to school from illness and hospitalization to support understanding and progress in the general curriculum. Collaborate as a team member within the school building in supporting other staff members to respond to student needs for reentry Develop relationships with school-level leadership and staff to assess programmatic needs Liaise with the Student Support Team with a lens of cultural proficiency and closing the opportunity gap Research and implement best practices from other transition programs and associations like the BRYT network Collaborate with the clinical coordinator and social workers to coordinate socio-emotional support of students in the program Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in a large school environment. They will also have experience coordinating and organizing academic and social-emotional supports for students. Candidates must be passionate about educational equity and possess a balance of technical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Bachelor’s Degree Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, and other school staff Ability to be innovative Demonstrated commitment to racial and educational equity Strong data analysis skills Capacity to identify and meet high-impact benchmarks Experience working with youth in an urban setting Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to listen and promote empathy Project and/or program management experience Team Building skills Decision-making skills Computer literate proficiency—internet, GoogleSuite, Microsoft Office Terms: Managerial Employee Tier B NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
