AMB HIM Release of Information Specialist

The AMB Health Information Management (HIM) Release of Information Specialist is responsible for processing medical Release of Information requests to patients and third party requesters, in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with HIPAA, federal, and state guidelines. This role uses designated equipment and databases to enter, update and maintain all pertinent information relative to requests and disclosures. This job assists in development and implementation of information management standards and systems to support the patient record.
Processes HIPAA compliant requests from patients and third-party requesters, ensuring valid authorization is obtained to support the release of information.
Ensures accuracy in researching and selecting the proper data to be released and ensures that the minimum necessary is sent while releasing records using both electronic and legacy systems, to prevent breach of patient confidentiality.
Researches attorney requests, subpoenas, and court orders for Risk Management review to provide advanced notice of possible litigation.
Bills, receives, and processes payments for the release of information following the fee schedule and guidelines.
Ensures accuracy in processing patient requested amendments following the Amendment/Correction of Health Information Policy, while collaborating with providers to ensure they follow timelines, state laws, and policies regarding Amendments/Corrections.
Collaborates with providers to process requests for termination of patient/provider relationship letters and blocking appointments in the electronic record, following the associated policies/procedures and timelines.
Researches data bases for proof of death on reportedly deceased patients and updates their status in the electronic medical record.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:Required: 3 years
