Our network of over 1,000 professionals supports private equity and institutional investor clients through every stage of the investment life cycle, from deal generation and due diligence to portfolio value creation and exit planning.

The PEG Innovation team's mission is to create analytical solutions for Bain clients, teams, and the broader institutional investor space using proprietary software and data products. This includes the development, commercialization, and daily management of Bain's proprietary datasets, data, and software businesses.


WHAT YOU’LL DO 

Bain & Company is developing a suite of cutting-edge data and software solutions designed to revolutionize how the private equity industry uses data for investment insights and decision-making. The Analyst, Product Management is a member of the PEG Innovation Team (PIT) team whose mission is to drive better and faster results for Bain consultants and clients through digital products that are embedded in Bain's consulting solutions. The PEG Innovation Team partners closely with PEG LT, Industry and Capability Practices and PIT's Engineering team to bring Bain's IP to life through the development and growth of tools, technologies, services, and support capabilities. In this role, the Analyst understands how software fits into the consulting strategy and supports the product team and the Practice by contributing to product outcomes that drive commercial objectives. The Analyst may also contribute to projects and support broader initiatives. 

 

Essential Functions

Discovery and Delivery Execution (50%)
 • As an active member of the development team, contribute to the development and execution of backlog by researching and creating user stories, defining requirements and acceptance criteria, testing new product ideas, bug fixes and enhancements, and communicating key information about product releases
 • Support the product by answering questions from users, customer success, etc. and troubleshoot issues, attempting to find the root cause and escalating when required
Product Strategy, Planning and Operations (25%) 
 • Understand the broader PIT and Bain vision, relevant consulting solution(s) and software-enabled consulting strategy
 • Understand the PEG business model, workstream structure, critical value levers, and gaps in delivery value or speed across the deal cycle
 • Understand the product strategy, roadmap, product priorities, and OKRs to support the development team and effectively contribute to product recommendations and decisions
Product Mindset and Customer Insights (15%)
 • Learn product management and software development best practices 
• Develop user knowledge and empathy, understanding their problems, pain points and outcomes
 • Track, analyze and organize key metrics and user feedback, summarizing  findings for the lead PM, development team and business stakeholders
Collaboration (10%)
 • Collaborate closely with internal and external cross-functional team members (including PIT designers, engineers, QA, analytics and client-facing teams) to continuously deliver value throughout agile development processes
 • Participate in departmental and organizational initiatives

 

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience working on software products in a support role, as a business/data analyst, or in an entry-level product role
• Ideal: Experience within traditional or alternative financial investment organizations or working on products inside a professional services company (e.g. consulting)

Education

• Associate's/Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience 

Essential skills

• Proficient written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated passion for learning and curiosity
• Has foundational data skills and/or technical acumen
• Practical experience in gathering and interpreting user needs

U.S. Compensation Information

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows: 

 

In Chicago, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time base salary range for this role is between $90,000-$109,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level

 

For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level

 

Annual discretionary performance bonus 

 

This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation

 

4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
