Job Summary:

The Analyst, Sustainability role is a unique opportunity that requires a combination of passion and dedication. You will be responsible for initiating and delivering creative, sustainable energy solutions crafted to meet corporate customers' needs in the clean energy economy.  Your focus will be on designing sustainability solutions, from opportunity to strategy to execution, where the connection between civic, corporate, and sustainability strategy is essential, and value creation is the focus.  Ultimately, the job of the Manager of Sustainability is to develop innovative, complex energy business solutions while interacting daily with a diverse deal team whose members include salespeople, management, financial modeling analysts, industry segment specialists, as well as customers and project partners. This is done through three specific internal roles. First, you will join NRG’s growing Sustainable Energy Advisory as one of its future consultants, providing you with the opportunity for professional visibility and growth. Second, you will support NRG Business and work with an internal deal team to close energy procurement deals. Third, the Analyst, Sustainability, will help execute NRG Energy’s sustainability strategy and research and engage in external thought leadership forums, which may include publishing written content and participating in public engagements, providing you with the opportunity for professional visibility and growth.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Support the Sustainability Consulting Team in delivering sustainability solutions and advice, in which the connection between civic/corporate and sustainability strategy is essential. The team's ability to consult on sustainability reporting (GHG Accounting, Science Based Targets, CDP, Climate Risk… etc.) is a primary requirement. Research target accounts across states with and without incentives to develop value propositions. Coordinate Sustainable Energy Advisory opportunities that maximize outcomes and reduce the client's environmental footprint by reviewing their current practices. Provide sustainability advice and the creation of implementation plans across a range of industry segments. Work with clients on various civic, corporate, product, and supply chain issues, including analyzing impacts and developing strategies to improve the sustainability performance of products, business units, and entire firms. Serve as a problem-solver committed to supporting NRG’s vision to provide sustainability services for a sustainable energy future. Assist in managing multiple projects and coordinate work efforts with other team members. Facilitate cooperation and deploy cross-functional teams that cut across NRG business units. Participate as an active member of the Sustainability Team to develop and implement an integrated sustainability strategy and program with associated goals designed to drive business results, reduce risk, ensure continuity, and enhance brand value. Evaluate strategies, technologies, partnerships, and business models to achieve company greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

 

Working Conditions:

Must be willing to travel overnight up to 50%

 

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or other related fields of study from an accredited college or university Minimum of 2 years of experience in a business development or consulting role, with an emphasis on Sustainability activities Must be able to demonstrate excellent public speaking and presenting skills; must be willing to present on stage/camera Must demonstrate excellent business writing skills and the ability to engage with the public as a thought leader on LinkedIn and across various other social media platforms (must be able to provide examples of published work) Must have previous experience working in SalesForce or another similar CRM

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with establishing new client relationships and operations MBA or Master’s degree in Sustainability from an accredited university Previous data science experience

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Possess a demonstrated network of sustainability professionals across civic and business demographics who may be strategic partners or clients. Familiarity with trends in sustainable business ranging from policy, operations, and reporting. Willingness to take initiative and possess outstanding project management skills. Self-starter -- takes steps to improve deliverables/results without having to be asked. Able to work independently, handles multiple, concurrent assignments effectively and makes timely decisions; ingenious problem-solver in face of time and resource constraints. Approaches issues and problems through teamwork and collaborative efforts. Ability to listen and must accord respect to divergent points-of-view. Works effectively on a team composed of people with diverse backgrounds. Demonstrates superior written and oral business communication skills to C-Suite level Able to clearly and concisely explain the results of complex issues to non-technical decision-makers.
