Job Description The New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for an analyst in the Crime Strategies Unit (CSU). The Crime Strategies Unit proactively gathers and analyzes crime data and intelligence to drive the Office’s strategies on crime reduction and public safety. Members of CSU work closely with the New York City Police Department to identify and study crime trends, as well as groups and individuals most responsible for driving crimes that impact our communities, including violent crime, theft, fraud, and quality of life offenses. In this position, the analyst is responsible for providing CSU with analytical and data support. This position requires a critical thinker with a strong combination of data skills and technological savvy. Candidates should also possess strong organizational and communication skills, as CSU relies on analysts’ work product in presentations to the highest levels of the District Attorney’s Office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Gather, analyze, and process data using industry-current and in-house proprietary applications to produce a complete model of crime trends in Manhattan neighborhoods. - Support day-to-day unit functions as needed. - Create descriptive presentations and reports using statistical analysis, including cleaning and synthesizing data, and reconciling qualitative and quantitative data sources. - Perform related administrative and clerical tasks as assigned. In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, all candidates must possess the following: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Preferred Requirements/Skills: - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Advanced Excel experience (pivot tables; charts; functions; etc.) is a plus. - Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow. - Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy. - A fast learner regarding new technology tools and software. Experience using Photoshop; ArcGIS; and i2 Analyst Notebook, is a plus. - Superior organizational, time management, writing, and communication skills are essential. - Ability to effectively communicate investigative results to other team members. - Experience in the Criminal Justice System preferred. An understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality. How to Apply: - Apply with a Cover Letter, Resume, and Unofficial Transcript. Hours/Shift: - Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Additional Information: - Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position. - Looking for candidates that could commit to two (2) years to the hiring unit. - Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. Qualifications Qualification Requirements 1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
