Analyst - Price Risk Management

Job Description:

The primary role of the Price Risk Analyst is to support the Pet NA PRM team with robust internal and external data and analytical risk management solutions. External analysis includes fundamental commodity markets, macro-economic trends, and internal data analysis related to demand, volatility, and impact to the PnL.  This role will interact with many stakeholders (Finance, Treasury, Commercial, Revenue Growth Management, and Treasury).  High level of acumen in statistics and analytics id required. The analyst will also be responsible for collaboration at a Segment level by operating with regional sourcing and PRM leads.  Additional PRM category ownership responsibilities will be considered for the analyst role depending on experience and performance. 

Mars Petcare North America is exposed to significant commodity price volatility which is proactively managed through robust price risk management processes and by leveraging internal competitive market intelligence.The primary role of Price Risk Analyst is to support the Sr. Price Risk Managers with robust analytical risk management solutions based on internal and external data.  External analysis includes fundamental commodity markets, macro-economic trends, and internal data analysis related to demand, volatility, and impact to the PnL.The NA PRM team manages execution risk for a variety of categories including grains, animal fats, resin, and energy. The Price Risk Analyst will support in hedge execution, strategy build-out, and market insight generation.This role must work across the Regional Mars Pet Nutrition Business Unit, Global Mars Pet Nutrition and cross-segments partners such as Mars Snacking and Mars Food.Additional PRM category ownership responsibilities will be considered for the price risk analyst role depending on experience and performance. 

 

What are we looking for?

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, mathematics, economics, supply chain, procurement, engineering, or a related field.

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (With potential for international travel).

Required: 5+ years' experience in financial derivative markets, price risk management, or sourcing in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry

Required: Advanced in statistical forecasting, data analysis, and fundamental market analysis

Required: Understanding of price risk management principles, hedging tools, and best practice processes

Required: Moderate understanding of how price risk management actions influence financials and the P&L

Required: The ability to set strategy, articulate vision, drive research quality, and develop a remote team with specialized backgrounds.

Required: Strong communication skills including messaging complex analysis to a broad, diverse, and large stakeholder group including Senior leaders, business units, and buying teams.

Preferred: MBA

Preferred: Experience in strategic sourcing including end to end strategy development

Preferred: Proficient in SAP and MRP systems

Preferred: Experience with commodity systems (ProphetX, FutureSource, Bloomberg, Allegro etc.)

Commodity Price Risk Management Framework and Business Unit Hedging PolicyEnsure full compliance with Procurement Policy and Conduct PolicyEnsure full compliance with any other internal guidelines and external regulationsEnsure full compliance and support to all on social, environmental, and sustainability projectsScore-carding KPIs to ensure compliance and stakeholder messaging.Modelling commodity data for specific markets and producing ad hoc analysis based on short-term market developments.Perform correlation and regression market analysis if direct hedging relationships are unattainable.Develop, coordinate, and support initiatives related to technology, trading data analytics, innovation, and broader initiatives in conjunction with stakeholders.Review & analysis of routine reports by competitors (SEC filings, earnings, etc.)Analyze supplier and economic markets to identify and manage market risks and opportunitiesFinancial and commodity portfolio price risk modeling (Historical Vol, Implied Vol, Seasonality Studies, Scenario Analysis, VaR)Supporting segment sourcing managers on forward fixed price contract execution, price forecasting, and communication to senior management.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the below range, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay & general allowances (depending on the position and employee’s work schedule).  Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policies and plans then in effect, and depending on the position offered and the employee’s work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule), eligible employees are automatically enrolled in a 401(k) plan, as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents, and may be eligible to take up to 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Employees will also receive the following paid-time off (which may be prorated based on start date and the employee’s work schedule): 120 hours of vacation per year, paid sick time for eligible Associates of 100% pay continuation for a maximum of 40 hours per calendar year, and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year that include both fixed and flexible holidays.
