Yes Employment Category Regular Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Analyst Programmer: Web Support Specialist, competency level 2, position for the Division of Educational Ventures at Oregon State University ( OSU ). The Division of Educational Ventures ( DEV ) is a growing, innovative, and collaborative organization with a commitment to providing high-quality online education. The division extends Oregon State University’s exceptional learning experiences including microcredentials, certificates, and degrees available to students throughout Oregon and around the world. The division includes Ecampus, offering over 100 online and hybrid degree programs; the Ecampus Research Unit ( ECRU ), conducting and supporting original research in online teaching and learning; the Corporate and Workforce Education Unit ( CWE ), creating pathways for learners employed by collaborators in business and government; the Center for the Outdoor Recreation Economy ( CORE ), providing workforce development for the outdoor recreation industry; the Open Educational Resources Unit ( OER ), aiding faculty in adopting open course materials; and the Alternative Credential Unit ( ACU ), developing short-form educational opportunities The Web Support Specialist (Analyst Programmer, Competency Level 2) plays a crucial role in providing web development and programming support for OSU Ecampus courses. This position supports the Web Team by monitoring incoming support tickets and offering troubleshooting and programming assistance for various applications. The scope of programming support can range from redeveloping an entire application to implementing small fixes. The multimedia team is part of the Course Development and Training ( CDT ) unit within the division of Ecampus. The division is a fast-growing, entrepreneurial organization with a commitment to providing access to Oregon State University’s programs of excellence. Ecampus includes Oregon State Ecampus (online degrees), Open Educational Resources (open access online resources), and the Ecampus Research unit (conducts original research) The CDT unit provides expertise and support for the development of online and hybrid courses, including instructional design services, innovative multimedia development, and faculty development programming and support. This position reports directly to the web team manager within CDT . Within the CDT team, the web support specialist will collaborate closely with other programmers on the multimedia web development team including instructional designers and faculty course developers to ensure high-quality projects are produced. This position works closely with faculty and administrators to assess how multimedia technologies can augment students’ abilities to meet course learning outcomes. The position builds long-term positive relationships and collaborates with faculty, instructors, and content experts to identify needs. Key Responsibilities 35% WEB SUPPORT AND TROUBLESHOOTING + Handles incoming support requests turning them into actionable items and communicates with necessary parties to get the issues resolved. + Troubleshoots web applications to resolve issues and diagnose technical problems that affect the work of OSU Ecampus’ clients/users. + Work with the team lead on determining the scope of support needed on web applications if a small implement is needed or a full redevelopment of the application. + Troubleshoot technical design issues, content updates, and other technical support related to the web. + Collaborate with the team lead, web developers, instructional designers, faculty support and other stakeholders as needed to troubleshoot and implement web solutions. + Ensure all web content is 508 and WCAG 2.1 compliant. + Work in an agile, iterative work environment. + Uses effective communication skills when responding to customer emails, attending consultation meetings, and regular interactions to solve work related problems and concerns. Education 30% WEB DEVELOPMENT + Designs, develops, and maintains scalable applications created in Vue.js, Bootstrap. + Develops front-end projects and components using JavaScript ES6. + Responds to front-end/browser compatibility issues. Develops applications that have responsive designs and adhere to WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards. + Designs, writes and implements testing processes (unit and end-to-end tests). Documents scripts, functions, tools, or integrations developed. 15% PROJECT MANAGEMENT + Turn incoming support requests into ticket items in project management system. + Maintains project status in Asana and/or Github for project tracking. + Attends meetings with project stakeholders to gather project requirements and share project progression. + Communicates progress and reviews web applications that have been developed for online courses with content experts and CDT team members involved in the project. 10% RESEARCH AND ASSESSMENT + Research and develops methods and technology that leverage media in improving instruction, knowledge transfer, and learner retention of information. + Identifies emerging technologies and resources that can be used to enhance and improve the quality and completion rate of media projects. + Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of technological components and products. Research and suggest improvements to current processes and tools. 5% PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE + Serves as a member of OSU Ecampus teams as assigned. Provides service to OSU by working on departmental, division, university, regional and national committees, and projects, serving as a representative of OSU Ecampus and the CDT team. + Attends meetings, participates in team decision-making, implements solutions to team challenges as a member of the CDT multimedia team. Service may include other duties assigned to support and provide backup for the CDT team. + Attend professional workshops and meetings, sharing knowledge and networking with other professionals. Represents OSU Ecampus at forums, workshops, trade shows, customer meetings, and other opportunities allowing interaction with constituents and clients. Participates in and provides technical cross-training. + Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for the course development team. 5% SECURITY + Ensures that all projects that are undertaken meet security and data integrity as established by OSU Ecampus and OSU IT. Implements processes to ensure projects meet these standards. + Advises unit leadership regarding security for any multimedia team digital assets or projects that are undertaken. + Remains aware of and provides a preliminary review of any system or software being used on a project that handles user data. + Maintains appropriate documentation related to data security regarding the projects completed. What We Require This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience. What You Will Need + Demonstrated skill and experience in front-end web development (JavaScript, CSS3, HTML5). + Experience developing in a collaborative team environment. + Excellent written and oral communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully and inclusively, both in writing and verbally, with a diverse audience. + Demonstrated skill and experience in Vue and Bootstrap.
