What You'll Do  Responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting routine and non-routine analysis of organic compounds. Responsible for the set-up, use, maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation and processes. Performs all aspects of analysis, including preparation of standards; calibration and standardization of instrumentation; routine, preventive, diagnostic, and quality control maintenance; sample measurement; and data review and reporting. Interfaces with program and laboratory managers to provide technical guidance on available analytical options and capabilities relevant to submitted analysis requests. Works with laboratory manager to review and modernize current procedures as well as develop new methods and procedures for analytical services as technologies, requirements, and customer needs evolve. Familiarity with gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Copy of resume, diploma, and transcript provided by the candidate. Highly motivated person. Strong leadership skills. Capable of working alone or in small teams to solve difficult analytical problems. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations to meet short deadlines. In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative).  DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment.  In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.   (Ref. DOE O 426.2) Preferred Job Requirements Experience in environmental or industrial hygiene laboratory techniques: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methodologies, such as SW-846, and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) methodologies. Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
