The Analytical Chemist I provides technical support to the laboratory team, developing the equipment, processes, and procedures used by the analysts in order to test product in support of Materion's requirements for customers and the ISO 17025 management system. The Analytical Chemist I reports to the Analytical Lab Supervisor or Analytical Lab Manager as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide effective training to other lab personnel on use of analytical equipment and systems.Validate, and continuously improve the analytical equipment, test methods, and practices used in the lab to generate high quality and timely test results.Review/Evaluate existing testing/methods for potential safety concerns/improvements.Attend technical conferences and classes to help the Materion lab stay current with technological advances.Work in coordination with Analytical Laboratory Manager and Analytical Chemist(s) to manage ISO 17025 certification.Investigate data quality concerns and present findings/conclusions. Implement mitigation plans to prevent reoccurrence.Author technical summaries/project updates and participate in improvement projects and problem-solving teams.Work with equipment OEMs and Materion personnel to provide technical support in relation to equipment, test methods, and practices. Examples include the selection, installation, maintenance, and method validation for any equipment used in the lab.Perform as an information/ training resource to other lab staff, other Materion employees, and customers with regards to analytic capabilities and testing methodology.Maintain proficiency with test methods and perform bench work as required based on staffing needs.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to candidates with a two- or four-year degree (preferably in a STEM field). High school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 10 or more years of relevant analytical laboratory experience.
