To learn more, please visit www.middlesexwater.com Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Water Quality Compliance Planner, the Instrumentation Water Quality Technician independently performs testing and maintains equipment for all analyses associated with various instrumentation (Atomic Absorption (AA), ICP/MS, GC/MS, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) etc.). Performs and maintains associated quality control for all analyses associated with instrumentation (Atomic Absorption (AA), ICP/MS, GC/MS, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) etc.). Maintains Quality Assurance Plan Manual and laboratory quality control as it pertains to instrumentation. Collects test samples at the treatment plant and in the field as necessary. Prepares necessary sampling containers and reagents. Maintains laboratory records, reports and completes data entries. Responsible for maintaining a neat and orderly work environment. Work Performed: + Perform analyses on Metals - Atomic Absorption (AA) and ICP/MS, Volatile Organics (VOCs) and Trihalomethanes (THMs) - (GC/MS), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Horiba Spectrofluorometer, Parker THM Analyzer, Toxicity test kits, and any future instrumentation implemented, utilizing proper techniques and methods. Maintain instruments in operational condition. Maintain quality control records associated with analyses. + Maintain Quality Assurance Plan manual. Provide assistance with SOP development and review to comply with Quality Assurance Plan protocols. + Maintain neat and accurate laboratory records. + Fully understand and be able to collect test samples, including water, soil chemical and metal samples as needed. + Prepare necessary reagents. + Monitor laboratory supplies and report to supervisor when replenishment is required. + Maintain laboratory equipment including the cleaning, standardization and repair of instruments when required. + Practice laboratory and field safety procedures and practices as provided. + Attend seminars and/or training sessions as requested. + Assist in training of Water Quality Technicians I and II on instrumentation. + Perform other related duties as required by supervisor. + Adheres to and promotes the Company safety policy and practices as it pertains to the job. + Arrange for instrument maintenance and repair services as needed. + Work along with external instrumentation service technicians to ensure proper maintenance and operations of laboratory instrumentation occurs. + Assist as a liaison with internal IT personnel and external instrumentation service technicians to ensure proper operations of laboratory instrumentation. Qualifications: + B.S. or B.A. degree in chemistry, biology or related science preferred. + Valid Motor Vehicle License. + Ability to keep neat and accurate records. + Minimum three years of experience in laboratory instrumentation (AA, ICP/MS, GC/MS and/or TOC). Two years’ experience as a Water Quality Technician I can be substituted. + The ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. + Must have T-2 license or ability to obtain one within three years of date of hire.
