Analytical Laboratory Technician

Description: This opportunity is with General Mills' Medallion laboratory

FIBER LAB: The fiber team is responsible for the daily LECO protein analysis in the fiber lab. When these tasks are complete, they will help with the daily fiber digestion.

Responsibilities include:

(1) Ensure routine maintenance tasks are completed on time and logged appropriately.

(2) Organize workload and prioritize samples to maximize output and meet deadlines.

(3) Meet Quality control and ISO requirements.

(4) Maintain a work environment that complies with GMI and Medallion safety rules.

(5) Perform routine instrument or equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

(6) Communicate effectively and in a timely manner.

(7) Any task or project related to Medallion offerings.

(8) Position requires significant attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities include:

• Facilitate analytical testing for Medallion. Some of the analytical tests include Enzyme Digestion, LECO, Ash Analysis, Protein Analysis and some HPLC analysis. All of the fiber tests they perform are listed in this link shown under Fiber Tests: https://www.medallionlabs.com/tests/ .

• Provide support and flexibility related to the analysis of samples for Medallion Labs.

• Document results and review data.

• Investigate any technical discrepancies on a timely basis.

• Develop a strong knowledge of the analytical methods being used to analyze samples.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

•\tlooking for 4 year degree applicants (preference for chemistry, food science, biochemistry … but they have had individuals with biology degrees also do well)

•\tPreference for someone coming in with 6 months – 2 years of industry experience as opposed to someone who is entry level.

o\tThere are a lot of hands on steps and minute details involved within this lab

o\tThere are currently 18 different method variations (this is a great lab to learn in!)

•\tIt would be good if candidates have experience with HPLC or Chromatography or LECO or Enzyme Digestion

•\tThe team is very tight and close

o\tThe team is open and inclusive

o\tLooking for someone who can train and learn very quickly based on documentation, SOPs

o\tSomeone who can live in the gray who can interpret and navigate unknown questions by using the team and their knowledge and resources to interpret and make a decision

Preferred Candidates:

3-6 months of industry experience in a GMP/GLP environment OR 6-12 months of undergraduate research

Experience with HPLC from industry or coursework is a plus
