Position Summary:

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an innovative, dynamic and collaborative faculty member to serve as an Anatomical Sciences Educator in the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum.  This new faculty member will join the College of Medicine at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. 

The Anatomical Sciences Educator will join a team of faculty who teach throughout the preclerkship curriculum and will have a primary focus on integrated anatomy instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings.  In addition, the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach in other disciplines aligned with experience and expertise.  

The position of Anatomical Sciences Educator includes the following primary responsibilities:

Create and present educational sessions that meet established learning objectives for anatomy instruction and collaborate with anatomy faculty to integrate material across courses.Serve as an anatomy lab instructor throughout the first-year curriculum, including all organ systems and structures covered in the Fundamentals of Biomedical Sciences course and the Neuroscience and Behavior course. Assist the Director of Anatomical Programs in developing and conducting technology-based educational sessions and content review.Assist with preparation and administration of anatomy lab practical exams and other assessments.Collaborate with course directors to create and present educational sessions in other foundational sciences aligned with expertise. Serve as a facilitator for small group problem-based learning sessions (PBL, IQ, SLIQ) and other case-based teaching sessions.Serve as a course director within the UME program as opportunities arise.As applicable, serve as an instructor in the Foundations of Medicine courses, Step 1 Review Course, Year 3 Synthesis and Transition course, Year 3 Academic Half-Day sessions, and/or Year 4 Transition to Residency course.Participate in course grading committees and assist with course remediation as needed.Serve as an instructor in the College of Medicine graduate programs as opportunities arise.Advise and mentor medical students as well as graduate students and residents, as applicable.Regularly attend curriculum meetings as well as other meetings needed to review student performance and curriculum implementation issues.Work with relevant curriculum committees and course directors to respond to quality improvement needs throughout the curriculum.Serve on College of Medicine and University committees as required or requested.Conduct scholarly work related to medical education, anatomy, pathology, histology and/or clinical practice, or another area of interest.

Minimum Qualifications:

An M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. in anatomy or a related field from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor are required.

For M.D. or D.O. candidates, a Florida medical license or eligibility for Florida licensure is preferred. Board eligibility or certification is also preferred.

Successful candidates will have significant teaching experience with medical students including instruction in anatomic dissection and demonstrated teaching excellence.

A track record of scholarship including invited lectures, enduring materials, peer-reviewed publications and/or grant funded projects, is preferred.

Strong ethical and professional conduct is required.

The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and learners from varied backgrounds is required.

Exceptional time management, adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple demands are required.
