Program and Position Summary:

Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) engages motivated young adults, ages 18 - 30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, historic preservation, and local environmental service projects.   ALCC provides opportunities for members to learn about and connect with the environment, issues surrounding conservation, and local Indigenous values.

ALCC crews work in a variety of National Parks, National Forests, and other public areas. Selected members are placed on a crew which will then collaborate to perform project work.  ALCC is a non-residential program and does not offer housing.  Gear and equipment rental is available upon request.

The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Wind River (ALCC-WR) Office is located on the Wind River Indian Reservation and works with the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative (TBI). Our mission is to serve and enrich the lives of the local tribal and community members of the Wind River Indian Reservation. We are dedicated to empowering Wind River tribal nation's youth by providing them with the skills, resources, and tools to lead their nations and revitalize their traditional culture. The program sees ecological conservation as inherently connected to the culture and health of the community. The ALCC-WR team will play a vital role in maintaining and revitalizing the ancestral lands of the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone through conservation project work. This position will help inspire and develop future crew leaders in Conservation and the outdoors.

Conservation Corps programming began on the Wind River Indian Reservation in 2017 through the Montana Conservation Corps and ran until 2019. The Grand Teton National Park Foundation additionally ran youth conservation corps crews from 2016 to 2019 that served youth on the reservation. This year will be the first year of operation of ALCC-WR.
