Ancillary Consultant

General Description: Manage a book of brokers and their business as assigned. Assist brokers with their small group ancillary sales and renewals. Responsible for supporting the broker-Emerson Rogers relationship. Provide mentorship to junior team members.
Responsibilities:• Provide consultation similar to Account Executive for groups under 50 lives or groups of 51+ lives for top tier brokers with books of business over $1.8 million. Focus on education, strategy, and sales.• Mentor internal staff on products and processes. Provide feedback on team members’ performance to direct management when required. • Work with Brokers determined by value of business and level of difficulty. Includes frequent contact and meetings.• Provide mentorship to internal team members on products and processes.• Work with internal team in quoting renewal alternatives and new business.• Work with Account Executives and vendors to negotiate rates, secure new business, and maintain existing business. • Identify cross-selling opportunities for other lines of coverage.• Update client database on an ongoing basis. Create and maintain case files of critical client information based on implemented workflows.• Meet with broker to understand client goals. Review request for proposal (RFP) prior to submission. • Review marketing spreadsheet results for accuracy. Deliver to broker with analysis and recommendations.• Follow-up and negotiate final terms of new/renewed business for the year with carriers.• Coordinate with Broker Consultant to install new/renewed business and enrollments with carrier.• Work with management and team on all aspects of administration to ensure service excellence.• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, vendors, and internal staff. • Stay current on insurance regulations, carrier plan options, underwriting rules, and other value add programs offered by Emerson Rogers.• Support Broker Consultant at renewal as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• 3-5 years of experience working in group ancillary benefit setting preferred. • Bachelor’s degree preferred.• Must have Accident & Health license. • Familiarity with products, services, competitive offerings, market needs, industry trends, and claim procedures.• Advanced understanding of self-insured plans.• Ability to creatively and proactively problem solve.• Ability to stay organized and focused in a busy, team environment.• Effective communication skills when dealing with co-workers, brokers, and carriers. • Experienced in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Strong analytical skills. Capable of using and interpreting benefit-related facts and figures.
Physical Demands:Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins. Employees operate office equipment including telephone - headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner, and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include walking, sitting, standing, bending, and typing.
Analysis of Physical Demands:• Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.• Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand, and bend. • Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.• Rarely (< than 1 hour per week) work performed requires lifting/carrying items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
