Anesthesia Monitoring Technician

Job Description:

This position is responsible for placing arterial lines. They also prepare equipment and supplies necessary for the delivery of surgical anesthesia. They also function as a member of the Surgical Services team to provide technical support, invasive pressure monitoring, record-keeping assistance, and general patient care assistance.

Scope

Employees hired/transferred into this role are expected to complete Arterial Line insertion training within 6 months of hire/transfer except in pediatric populations. This job should be used in Trauma hospitals only.


Job Essentials

Clean and sterilize all equipment, environment and instrumentation on a daily basis using appropriate sterilization methods.Check all equipment for functionality and reliability. Complete regularly scheduled inspections.Maintain inventory of anesthesia supplies and stock supply carts.Prepare equipment and supplies specific to each procedure.Assists Anesthesiologist in preparing patient for anesthesia, including central line set-up and placement. Follows aseptic technique and moves appropriately around a sterile field.After procedure, is responsible for collection; cleaning and appropriate processing of contaminated anesthesia equipmentInsert radial art line for pressure monitoring except in pediatric populations where MD insertion is necessary and blood gas analysis under an anesthesiologists supervision.Draw and process blood samples for blood gas analysis, when requested by an anesthesiologist.


Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations. (required for employees who perform non-waived, moderate complexity testing - iSTAT and Bleeding Time).Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.Three months of perioperative or ICU experience.Experience with email and internet


Preferred Qualifications

One year of OR, ICU, or ED experience.Pass Basic Aseptic Technique class. Required within 90 days of hire or transfer into this job.Some college education in a medical field.Previous monitoring experience.Medical terminology.

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, sterile indicator tags, colors, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment and instruments with precision and accuracy. This includes computer use and typing for documentation, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- and -
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position with personal protective equipment for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
