Job Overview:

In collaboration with the anesthesiologist/CRNA, the anesthesia technician will function as a member of the team to organize and administer individualized age specific care to patients in the surgical suite and across the perioperative division. The anesthesia technician will coordinate and provide technical support to the providers of anesthesia in the operating room, assist with the educational development of learners within the anesthesia department, assist with patient care, and maintain and ensure availability of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

Graduated from an accredited program in Anesthesia Technology, or a suitable combination of education and 2 years of experience. Maintenance of BLS Healthcare Provider Course completion status required. Successful completion of all orientation and departmental programs, and competencies with documentation required. Additional experience/training may be required based on departmental specific needs. Additional certifications may be required

Essential Functions:

Ensures availability of equipment such as pacemakers, transport monitors, cables, oxygen, and infusion pumpsPractices principles of aseptic technique when gloving, handling probes, scopes, central lines, and IV sAnticipates the anesthesia providers needs when a case deviates from the normal and is able to provide a smooth transition.Maintains and cleans anesthesia machines. Prepares and calibrates anesthesia machines prior to start of surgeryMaintains and cleans equipment including cleaning and disinfection of TEE probesStocks anesthesia carts and orders supplies as indicatedAssists the anesthesia provider during patient induction and intubationContributes to a satisfying work environment through a positive attitude, cooperative interactions with team members, use of problem solving and critical thinking skills, and collaborative teamworkProperly prepares IV solutions/medicationAssists anesthesia providers with IV/Central line placementCommunicates pertinent information surrounding optimum patient care to the appropriate patient care providerProperly transfers the patient to and from the OR tableKnows role during an emergency and responds appropriately.Assists with patient positioningPerforms all other duties as assignedTransports medications to and from the pharmacy.
