PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for assisting the anesthesia team with specific patient care tasks, care of equipment, and provides selective anesthesia procedure set-ups, under the direction of the Anesthesia Technician Supervisor/Coordinator, CRNA, and/or Anesthesiologist.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the anesthesia team with specific patient care/tasks, provides selective anesthesia procedure set-ups, and assists with patient transport to PACU/ICU under the direction of the Anesthesia Technician Coordinator/Anesthesia Care Provider.
Applies patient monitoring equipment (BP cuff/EKG/BIS/SPO2), under direction of CRNA the anesthesia care provider. Assists the anesthesia team during induction of patient, during emergency situations and in preparation for transport.
Provides necessary equipment/supplies/drugs for the anesthesia team at all perioperative sites, including the Women’s Center, HVIS, GI Labs, MRI, and EP Labs. Performs appropriate anesthesia set-up procedures with specialized equipment and adheres to anesthesia policies and procedures.
Provides set-up for proper airway equipment, invasive lines, primes fluid warmers, and prepares fiberoptic intubation cart for use as indicated.
Performs between case anesthesia cleaning procedures, including the cleaning of special equipment/carts, and performs weekly cleaning procedures. Trouble-shoots all monitoring equipment and anesthesia machines and safely handles/changes gas cylinders and patient monitors.
Orders and maintains par levels of anesthesia supplies and drugs; restocks anesthesia cart with drugs and supplies.
Assembles, transports, and safely connects the power and gas supply for the anesthesia machine and cart for the procedures performed out of the Operating Room. Insures all equipment, supplies and drugs are available.
Calibrates and troubleshoots anesthesia equipment and monitors and initiates service calls for broken anesthesia equipment as needed.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to Supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.

Frequent contact with nursing staff, patients, families, visitors, medical/dental staff, ancillary staff, students, community agencies, vendors, staff from other hospitals, and general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, and climb as per unit based physical demands checklist.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to biological and environmental elements with occasional exposure to chemical elements as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.
