Anesthesia Technician II
Under direct supervision, supports the anesthesia department by the preparation and set up of appropriate equipment and supplies for each surgical case in the Operating rooms (OR’s) and satellite areas. Performs related functions to ensure the delivery of quality, efficient and safe patient care. Actively participates in supporting established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, and environmental and infection control standards.

Education:
High School or GED
Licensure:
• Current CPR Certification (Heartsaver)
Experience:
Successful completion of Anesthesia Course/Certification or at least 1-2 years previous experience in anesthesia field required. Experience as a certified pharmacy technician preferred.
Skills:
• Ability to read and write
• Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions
• Analytical skills in order to maintain equipment and supply inventory
• Basic knowledge of the metric system
• Basic knowledge of the different types of pharmaceutical dosage forms and drug nomenclature
• Ability to perform the basic ratio and proportion mathematical calculations
• Ability to enter data via various computer applications in a timely manner
• Competent to safety handle medications

Patient Population: 

Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific needs if applicable. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Cleans and services anesthesia equipment (i.e. gas machines) to include proper breakdown and reassembly of gas machines, utilizing aseptic techniques and according to established procedures.
• Transports equipment to and from the operating room, procedural areas and other locations in the hospital as needed.
• Assembles and sets up equipment used by the physicians, nurses, and surgical technicians such as anesthesia machines, automated dispensing carts, fluid warmers, infusion pumps, transport monitors, arterial lines, glide scopes, nerve blocks, and sono-site devices.
• Assists the anesthesiologist and the nurse anesthetist in the preparation of special anesthesia equipment such as spinal trays, epidural trays, fiberoptic scopes, and difficult airway and pediatric carts as directed.
• Troubleshoots equipment and performs minor repairs/adjustments and maintenance. Contacts Biomedical Engineering to request service of equipment as needed.
• Stocks supplies in anesthesia machines, operating rooms/procedural areas, anesthesia, epidural carts and other carts as necessary.
• Keeps the storage areas clean, neat and orderly to ensure easy storage and retrieval.
• Assists with opening/breaking down boxes and transporting supplies to various OR/procedure locations.
• Interacts with Central Sterile Processing, Distribution, Receiving, Pharmacy and Department Buyer to place and follow-up on purchase orders.
• Cleans and maintains the general appearance and cleanliness of all equipment the department uses directly or indirectly in the care of patients.
• Assists anesthesiologists and the nurse anesthetist with all intraoperative procedures, positioning, arterial lines, intubations, IV access if necessary.
• Has access to supply rooms and operating rooms where supplies and/or medications are stored.
• Operates automated dispensing machines/cabinets for the purposes of restocking supplies.
• Signs off on various documents/checklists (required for quality checks) according to standard of work, daily and/or in a timely manner.
• Reads emails daily on scheduled workdays.
• Identifies and anticipates issues. Takes responsibility to correct and resolve issues when arise.
• Readily accepts challenges and performs all duties as assigned effectively.

Pay Range

$16.44 - $24.97

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
