Primary Purpose
Prepares anesthesia equipment in assigned rooms for operative procedures and maintains supply levels
of the anesthesia cart, to ensure that all supplies are present and that anesthesia machines are set up,
tested and in working order.

• Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement
in job from one of the following:
• American Heart Association
• American Red Cross Rescuer
• Military Training Network.
Skills or Special Abilities
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of principals and policies concerning anesthesia procedures.
• Must be able to operate all anesthesia equipment and to recognize equipment malfunction.
• Must be able to read written directions and to write legibly.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
• Must be able to lift, carry, and push heavy objects.
Responsibilities
1. Prepares the assigned anesthetizing locations to ensure that all necessary equipment is available and
fully functional and that all anesthesia supplies and disposable items are fully stocked in accordance
with prescribed par levels. Ensures drug boxes are handled according to established procedures.
Rotates to assigned area before and during cases to determine the need for other items or further
assistance. Remains available during anesthetics to retrieve any requested supplies to support the
anesthesia care team during the course of the anesthetic. Prepares reports of activities of assigned
shift to provide daily documentation of the assigned activities.
2. Maintains infection control standards through application of universal precautions, decontamination
of surfaces, cleaning and sterilization of appropriate equipment and supplies and proper application
of aseptic technique. Ensures barrier fields are discarded and replaced prior to each procedure. This
includes, but is not limited to, proper use, care, and maintenance of autoclaves and chemical
decontamination systems (i.e. Steris).
3. Assists the anesthesia provider with: airway management; placement and securing of invasive and
noninvasive monitors; patient positioning for induction and maintenance of both general and regional
anesthesia; troubleshooting anesthesia equipment; patient monitoring and transport and other
patient care issues as assigned.
4. Maintains the readiness of all anesthesia equipment. Uses, maintains and calibrates “point-of-care”
laboratory devices, to include but not limited to, hemocue machines, glucometers, and blood gas
machine. Documents required maintenance and calibration of “point of care monitors”. Properly
stores and handles compressed gas cylinders and vaporizers.
5. Assists in training and providing work leadership to new employees, students, and other departmental
trainees in daily operations in order to ensure that all anesthesia technical support staff are properly
trained and informed.
6. Maintains a positive working relationship with job related contacts. Acts as a resource person for nonjudgmental anesthesia technical support questions to the anesthesia care team, patients and visitors.

the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending
seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional
organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into
current work practices.
3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact
the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable
laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks
advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
